I read somewhere that during the first year you are GF you may find that you

start reacting to other foods. Of course is at play and I can't

remember where I read this so I haven't been able to get any more info on

it.

I have been GFCF for 3 months now and am finding that I am getting reactions

to all sorts of foods that never affected me before.

My solution is to restrict my diet even more but this is not a long term

solution that is very palatable.

Anyone know anything about this issue? What is the best way to treat it?

Can you help your body along or do you just have to wait things out? How

long do you suggest I go before I try a challenge on the other foods I am

cutting out?

Shez,

You can go to www.yorkallergyusa.com and read alot about food intolerances.

I had the testing done for my son, but I do not neccessarily recommend it. It is expensive, not covered by our insurance, and we could have just done a food diary ourselves and saved the money. We could tell he was soy and dairy intolerant, just by keeping a food diary - and that is what their tests showed. We never knew it before, because the gluten made him so sick,

Also, they advertise that they provide phone support for one year when in fact they are VERY difficult to reach once you have paid for and received your results. Our dietician who also had Celiac looked at the results and said she wished we would have saved our money. That is just my 2 cents and there may be other people out there with more severe allergies, etc. who have benefited more from the testing.

At any rate, they recommend waiting 4-8 months before re-introducing the foods to which you are intolerant.

They also make the following recommendations in the packet they send you with your results:

1. If you avoid dairy, add plain yogurt first. If no reactions occur in 5-days, try cows milk.

2. Egg is best tested trying cooked yolk only, after 5 days w/o reaction try egg white.

3. When testing any food, choose a food made only of the product tested not any others on your list.

4. Always allow one week before introducing new foods.

We found that keeping a food diary with reactions really helped us pinpoint what he was reacting to. We haven't re-introduce yet, but I'm sure the same is true with that process.

Hope this helps!

When I asked this forum a few months back,

I was told it was due to the damage in the intestine causing “leaky gut”….the

intestinal barrier is compromised, therefore allowing particles of food to

enter the bloodstream. The body sees these particles as intruders and creates

antibodies, leaving you “allergic”. Generally this happens with the

foods you eat the most….which was true in my case. I was told it takes

8-12 months for these antibodies to clear. It was suggested to stop eating

those offending foods, with no mistakes, for that duration.

I was allergic to so many foods, it would

be impossible to do that….so I’ve made an appointment to see a

naturopathic doctor that was recommended to me by a friend with similar circumstances.

She has made the most amazing turnaround….I feel its worth a shot.
