Guest guest
Lana, It just gets better and better as they get bigger, tho. A friend said it best: every stage of development was her favorite! Are you considering home schooling? Some smart kids do so much better being able to learn at their own pace than in groups that mostly review what they already know. My friend has an incredibly smart little girl who hated kindergarten because they only covered stuff she already knew. She hated art because they told her what to make and how to do it. Her mother said it was like torture to make her go every day and sit quietly and be good there when her mind was so active and curious. My son in contrast loves building and is homeschooled. He's already designed a hand-powered pump, and can tell you about different kinds of engines and gears. He's 6. His favorite activity is designing different gear set-ups with lego technics to copy the engine parts he sees on YouTube. You push a piston and the gear turns and makes the fan spin like crazy, that kind of thing. My daughter was pulled out of school because it bored her too much. She wanted more time to do art. Now she's making stop-motion animation projects. Her reading is progressing effortlessly as is her grammer. She learns math very quickly too so instead of all the time school would have spent on that she can blow through the lessons and have freedom to create and get really deeply involved in it for long periods of time, which is what she wants. Both kids are well-advanced beyond their peers on cultural and religious competency, economics, problem-solving, politics, history, and such, which is something I see almost universally among homeschooled kids (as long as their parents aren't the type that chooses home schooling to keep their kids sheltered). > > > > It really is fun, albeit exhausting. Guest guest
Yeah, homeschooling is a wonderful thing (if one is so inclined). We're finishing up on 11 years and I am so glad we took this path. -Patty --- In , " haecklers " <haecklers@...> wrote: > > Are you considering home schooling? Guest guest
Yay! My computer is " fixed " - my good video card is dead, but I had an on-board video I could resort to. As for homeschooling... I very much wish I could, but unfortunately, there's no way we could survive on what he makes alone. I've been actively seeking employment and hope to be back to work soon. We're trying to split our schedules so we don't have to put her in daycare. Maybe he'll end up staying home with her if I get a good enough job, but she'll probably still end up going to public school. I do intend to check out all the schools available though, we're in a charter area. Hopefully I'll be able to find something worthwhile. -Lana On Fri, Feb 6, 2009 at 6:33 AM, haecklers <haecklers@...> wrote: > Are you considering home schooling?
