Guest guest
I put in a couple of posts on a thread on this subject last week, but seem to have excited no interest. However they contained (or concealed) a serious question, that is, what is addictiveness?, for it seems to me that substances differ in their propensity for making you want to take more and not stop but that this is mixed up with the desire to remain addicted inside the blanket term " addictiveness " . A year ago my doctor prescribed me. at my request, a mild sleeping drug called Stilnox (Zolpidem) which I tolerate well, in order to help me stabilise my sleep rhythms. He restricted the prescription to 15 tablets however as it was addictive, affecting GABA receptors. During the time I took them I was aware that I liked the idea of munching them in small quantities all day as I would 'feel better', so of course I took them with great care and circumspection, and no lasting ill effect except that I am now chary of all drugs. Any ideas anyone? Graham
