Guest guest
Gale, have you by any chance been taking a cholesterol lowering drug? Those cause muscle weakness and pain. Just a thought. beebe From: NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS [mailto:NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS ] On Behalf Of Gale Sent: Monday, August 20, 2007 11:25 AM To: NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS Subject: Muscle weakness? Since becoming Hypo last spring I have noticed a continuing decrease in my muscle strength in my legs. It has gotten so bad that my legs feel like dead weight. I cannot get up from a kneeling or squatting position. Just in the past few months my feet hurt terribly when I get out of bed or stand after sitting for a while. The pain in my feet goes away after a few steps & I can then walk normally. Does anyone know what this is caused from? Hypo or possibly high cortisol? I was watersking a year ago & now I cannot even climb into our boat. I am really down. These plus the weight gain are my remaining symptoms. Everything else is about gone. It does not help that I have gained an additional 5 lbs since being on T3. GRRRRRRRRRRR... Gale
Guest guest
Val, The foot problem is the last symptom of Hypo that developed. I guess I will know when things start to work, when my feet stop hurting. LOL Gale > > The foot pain when oyu wake is HYPO. Guest guest
Beebe, I would not touch the stuff & have managed to get my DH to stop using Lipitor. He just had his cholesterol tested after being off of Lipitor for a year. He now takes Red rice yeast, Omega fish oil & cinnamon. He also eats a high protein, low carb diet. His cholesterol is now BETTER then it has been in 5 years. Gale > > Gale, have you by any chance been taking a cholesterol lowering drug? Those > cause muscle weakness and pain. Guest guest
Your symptoms sound identical to mine. Mine became WAY worse after 3 1/2 weeks on Synthroid. I thought I was going to die because I was getting weaker by the day. When I started Armour things improved but are still not back to the way they were before I took the Synthroid, in February of this year. I think that adrenal fatigue contributes to this. I also had pain in my feet and ankles. In fact, I had such trouble recently after trying to go on walks in the woods that I was getting depressed at becoming too " old " to go for walks with my children. I figured out that my symptoms were the same as what I'd had years before when working, and went away with time and good expensive shoes. So, I went out and bought myself a pair of 115 dollar sneakers (New Balance SL-2 Health Walk) and the pain went away almost as soon as I put them on. The problem was partly incorrect fit in my old shoes, partly hypothyroidism, I believe. I wear my shoes everywhere, except to bed and in the shower. Are you optimized on Armour yet? Are you on synthetic T4? If you are not optimized you will probably see this improve as you get close to your optimum dose. If you are on Synthroid, get off and get on Armour! Also check reverse T3, I think that might be a factor, but I don't know for sure. I am feeling better now that I'm on more Armour - I'm up to 2 grains (120mg) daily and also 10 mcg of Cytomel daily. Today I exercised for the first time in over a year and I feel good! My legs are still weak but improved a bit from this spring. Guest guest
Actually , I do not have pain in my legs just my feet when I wake up. My legs are just weak. I can walk alright but cannot climb a ladder or rise from a squatting position. I only took Synthyroid for 3 weeks when I was first diagianosed last July. I switched to Armour & increased up to 7,1/2gr. It was while on Armour that these symptoms started, not when I first became severly hypo. The first week of June I switched to T3 only. I am on 200mcg of T3 now & waiting for some type of improvment. I have to agree with you about shoes. I live in Birkenstocks & now those rubber " Crocs " . I refuse to wear cheap uncomfortable shoes. Life is just too short. Gale > > > > Since becoming Hypo last spring I have noticed a continuing decrease > > in my muscle strength in my legs. Guest guest
I think that the weakness is from long term hypothyroidism, at least in my case. Maybe the Synthroid just unmasked it further for me. Whatever way it happened, my muscles are weak. Muscles can be built up but it's lots of work. I think that is what those of use with muscle weakness from hypothyroidism have to do, because our muscle tissue atrophies a bit from the condition. I like Joyce Vedral's workouts and will start doing those once I've worked up to that level of exercise, they are quite intense. Have you heard of the Strong Women program? I think it is online, and free. Dr. Miriam is the author of the Strong Women books, my mother does that routine and it is good and basic for strengthening. My mother will be 76 next month and she pumps iron! LOL Gale wrote: > > Actually , I do not have pain in my legs just my feet when I wake > up. My legs are just weak.
