's skin might be shedding and feeling itchy from all those casts. I

would think that it is normal. I would put some lotion on his legs to keep

them " moist " and them the problem would clear up. Try Curel or Lubriderm

(sp?) lotions.

, what a great name. That's my nephew's name too!

My Sam had really bad excema after he had his casts removed. It was

probably due to all the plaster srying his skin out. (He bascially

had casts from his second week of like until he was six months old,

seeing as we started the Ponseti method later also.) Sam would itch

and rub his leg raw for the first month or so. I even took him to

the doctor because I was so concerned about it. We tried Eucerin and

Aquaphor but what really helped us was baths with cornstarch in the

water. Also, we stopped giving him baths every day and gave him one

twice a week at the most - just so the leg had a chance to " dry

out " . Oh, and just plain old Dove bar soap was wonderful too. I was

told that the liqid soaps have more detergent in them and cause the

skin to dry out more. We did use Neutrogena's Body Emulsion cream

and that seemed to help his skin without irritating it more.

Anway, I hope that helps and I hope 's itching clears up soon.

Hi Tia,

Dr. Ponseti told us that Judd could have his brace off for 2-3 hours for the

first 4 months (he was in the brace full time longer, since we started treatment

later).

Tia,

It really depends on each individual case and each doctor. Dr. Ponseti had

in the brace 24/7 for the first three months (only allowed one hour

off each day at the most), she was already 7 1/2 months old when we started

with the brace. But, Dr. Ponseti told us that Dr. Weinstein (his partner)

usually only has the kiddo's wear them 24/7 for 2 months.

My son went to Sinia on Friday the 2nd and saw Dr. Herzenberg.

The great News for us was after wearing the shoes for 23 hours for

three months straight we now can put them on for nap time and night

time. We are so blessed to be one of Dr.n Herzenberg's Great results

of the ponseti treatment. Good luck to all . And keep your heads high

when people are so rude with the cruel things they say about castings

it all works out in the long run.

It's great to hear that is doing so well! Has the DBB transition

been going well?

It's too bad to hear that people have been making cruel remarks about

the casts. :( I only had one experience and maybe some looks, but

otherwise, most people asked. I was soooo glad when the casts came off,

though! :)

I've noticed that more people asked us about the casts but more

people stare at the brace. I don't know if it's because they thought

maybe the baby was in some type of accident with the casts and felt

more comfortable asking or what. I remember the day we got the casts

a waitress asked if his legs got broked on the way out (delivery).

She was really just genuinely concerned and curious though. I would

rather people ask than stare. Have others noticed this with the

casts vs. the bar?

Pam,

I have found that people are not as shocked by the DBB. I hear alot

of comments as we past people like, " I haven't seen one of those in

years! " and " Boy that brings back memories " . I also have had

several people stop and say that either they wore one or a sibling

did. One lady stoped me and said her brother wore one and was an

Olympic track runner. Another told me she remembered how hard it was

to turn over in bed and to go to the bath room at night.

With the casts people mostly said what happened? Or did he have

surgery? I also would rather people ask than stare. I have a 3 year

old that is rather Vocal and if she saw someone staring at Caleb she

would tell them " He has Club Feet! They are not broken! "

I had a lot more people comment on the brace and stare at the casts. :)

so many people said that they wore or knew someone who wore the brace.

It was very interesting to find out the various reasons why. :)
