Guest guest
, Does your daughter have Reflux? I am not sure, but I thought if someone has Reflux, and it is not being treated properly that it can irritate the throat. I could be completely wrong about this, anyone on the list my know. Patti ---- Original Message ----- From: To: Mitoonelist Sent: Sunday, February 06, 2000 11:40 AM Subject: not eating Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. My daughter 2.9 yrs, non-specific mito disorder, has decided to quit eating completely, she usually gets about 80% of her nutrition through her g-tube. Now she won't eat anything except fat-free frozen yogurt. Had everything checked out to make sure that her throat was ok. nothing, no apparent reason for her to refuse all the foods she used to love. This is becoming a big problem, as she has severe hypoglycemia. Does this sound like a phase or something else? it's been going on for sometime now. I'm feeling pretty guilty about letting her eat frozen yogurt for breakfast, but I can't get anything else in her, and her sugars are running to low. Any input would be great. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please click above to support our sponsor ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brought to you by www.imdn.org - an on-line support group for those affected by mitochondrial disease. Guest guest
i am having one of those nights when i am at my wit's end....(AGAIN!!) Lexi (23 months) has stopped eating anything orally, and is presently living on fluids taken in thru a bottle. She has never been a good eater, very poor weight gain, etc, but i have always managed to get her to at least try things. three weeks ago we left for colorado and i expected her not to eat well on the way there (par for the course for her), but even after we got there, she refused to eat. in the 12 days we were there, she ate 4 bites of noodles and 2 bites of cake. THAT'S IT! we lost our Regional Center funding about a month and a half ago, so the OT and feeding thearpy she was getting she isn't presently getting (i am appealing, but <SIGH> you know how THAT goes). now keep in mind i am a pediatric speech therapist myself, specializing in feeding disorders...can get any other kid in the WORLD to eat, but not my own. life is chock full of irony, isn't it.........none-the-less, she seems to have lost her lip seal, can't chew any more, is extremely defensive inside her mouth despite a daily desensitizing routine, and generally shows ZERO interest in food. i guess my real question is this: how do i know when it's time to give up the ghost and pursue a feeding tube? i really can't imagine that we are there yet, but SOMETHING has got to give here and i am hopeful it isn't my sanity. does anyone have any ideas, thoughts, comments, or other? i could sure use some help. ruth aka mitch and lexi's over-tired but USUALLY optimistic mom
