Guest guest
ok, Here is a question I must ask....How many of the post-op crowd - If you had it all to do again would NOT do it again and why??? My DH says I am putting myself at un-necessary risk and if I really wanted to loose the weight I would have. Open RNY scheduled for Aug 26th 2001 BMI 43 P.S Why is it that most of the group members do not include the surgery and progress? I love to see the results of individuals with surgery performed, it is usually inspirational...!
Guest guest
- Many husbands feel this way because they are scared of losing us. Remind him that you are putting yourself at risk even more by not losing the weight. You will develop more and more health problems as a heavy person, and probably end up needing surgery, maybe more than one, for those health problems. All surgeries have risks. So which is better? The one surgery now that will give you powerful tool you need to lose weight, or several surgeries later on for all of your weight-related health problems? I know that I would have never been able to take off the weight without this surgery. It's just too easy to cheat for me as a normal person. Now, I feel as if I can't cheat because my small pouch won't let me. It's still not easy, but the tool makes it possible. I hope he changes his mind. It helps if he supports you in your decision. Some just need some time. Take care. Jeanne in WI Age 39 Open RNY 05/21/2002 314/ 263.5 /150-175 5' 8 " djgraves@...
Guest guest
, I wanted to respond to your hubby's comment that you would just lose weight if you wanted to bad enough. I too wanted to respond to that. Your hubby doesn't understand and is scared to lose you. What you need to make him understand is that it isn't just a matter of losing the weight, we have all done that, but then we regain. It isn't a matter of willpower... I mean please how many folks do you know who have enough willpower to loose 100 lbs? MANY of us have done that time and again. Morbid obesity is a disease. Genetics play a huge factor. Think of it like this, if it were cancer you had, and if you had surgery you had a 95% chance of getting rid of the cancer and living a healthy productive life, everyone would say have the surgery. Those are the same odds for us. If you don't lose the weight you are certain to have major health issues in the future. Diabetes, High Blood pressure, Apnea, Heart attack, premature death .... etc..... But, by taking control now with this surgery, you have changed those odds.... you now have a 95% chance of avoiding all those things, if you don't already have them, and of living a healthy, long life. And if you do have them, then the severity will lessen. I was on 2 high blood pressure med, and 2 diabetes meds. I am off all meds now. WAHOO. My hubby was like yours. He just didn't understand. It took me two years to get through to him, and he was still very scared I would die on the table. Now, 2.5 months out from surgery, down 65 lbs, he is so proud he can't hardly stand it. Just the other night he apologized to me for not understanding 2 years earlier. He feels like he put my life on hold for that time. So hang in there, and just educate him. To the normal population this seems like the easy way out, and it is not. There is such prejudice against obese folks, because there is much ignorance. They just don't get it. And only education will make a difference. Hugs, --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
I had lap rny on January 7th this year and I would most definitely do it again in a heartbeat I have felt so much better and I have lost 90 pounds since then and I have gone from a size 46 pants to a 18 and 4-5x shirts to a 18-20 and would most definitely recommend it to anyone who asked me about it and it is not an easy thing because we will still have food issues but each person needs to do their research and do what they feel is best for them TN Re: Newbie question > ok, Here is a question I must ask....How many of the post-op crowd - If > you had it all to do again would NOT do it again and why??? > My DH says I am putting myself at un-necessary risk and if I really wanted > to loose the weight I would have. > > > Open RNY scheduled for Aug 26th 2001 > BMI 43 > > P.S Why is it that most of the group members do not include the surgery > and progress? > I love to see the results of individuals with surgery performed, it is > usually inspirational...! > > > > > To Subscribe to 's weekly FREE Newsletter send an email to GBCookbook-subscribe@... >
Guest guest
I would do it again. The day I discovered I was broken. IN fact, I DID do it again. Even after observing a revision, I was ready to do it then, that hour, right after my friend was done. Now. Yesterday. If I could have long legs by WANTING, I'd be 5;9 " . If I could have straight thick hair by WANTING, you'd all hate me. If I could have brown eyes, or no freckles by WANTING, I'd be gorgeous. But the cards I was dealt are short legs, red curly hair, blue eyes, ample freckles and MORBID OBESITY. That's the package I got. Too bad that I got a tendency to moles, the ability to jabber non-stop, and a fatal disease that will kill me if left untreated. My disease is ONLY in remission. You never see me say my 150# is " one forever " . It's only gone as long as my surgery is intact. I'm human, was built to survive on food, so the desire to eat is still there. The ability to store all calories & burn none is still there, OR I'd have just wasted away from the radical surgery I had. If it was " just will power " , then I'd have outeaten my surgery. You can come at it from any angle you want, but it boils down to one thing. This disease will kill you, directly or indirectly, unless you take the strongest steps available today. you can continue with the treatments that don't work as long as you want, but when you want to beat the monster back into the bushes, you have to get serious with it. Of course it's scary. It should be. Facing our disease AS a disease is even scarier than treating it. For one thing, it's the letting go of all those years of guilt, " You mean.... I NEVER could have controlled it? " And THAT is scary. Why? I'm Alive! I think that pretty much sums it up for me. I knew if I didn't do it I would be six feet under laying next to my grandparents, aunt, and My Father. Yes it's a gasp to cross the legs, its wonderful to see my feet w/out leaning over, I can walk and breath at the same time, but I couldn't do any of that If I was dead. So again: Why: I'm ALIVE! >> > P.S Why is it that most of the group members do not include the surgery > and progress? > I love to see the results of individuals with surgery performed, it is > usually inspirational...! !~~~~~~~~~I forget to do it. I understand what you are saying its not a habit for me. But I'll try and start doing it I can see where it will be inspirational! Theresa H SX: 7/20/02 Moline IL Start Weight 327 A.O. Inspirational it is! It is good to see how others are doing and hopefully my experience will help others too. BTW, as far as your husband goes....1) He is worrying about you...he loves you. 2) If you could have lost weight with other methods you would have. Cheers! Guest guest
Ethel - Are you worried about becoming a protein addict? That's a good thing, ya know. No problem with 2 or 3 shakes a day.
