I'm with you Carol - I just started again on Phase 1, after a disasterous foray onto the Atkins Diet. I figure there are 2 weeks at least before Christmas to behave myself (my eating), and I probably will get the weight I gained on 3 days on Atkins, off. Then if I can get through Christmas without gaining, I will be really happy and I may be at goal by then - I only have those last dastardly 3 lbs to lose.

By the Way, I saw our company's dietitian the other day and she said the South Beach Diet is much more healthy than Atkins, and for some reason women do much better on SBD than Atkins.

My opinion is that you can still gain quite a bit between now and the new year that you will have to lose. I think you should start now. I think everyone looks for reasons to put it off. If you were to start now, you would be done with phase one well before Xmas and can have a week to add back in things and see how your body reacts. You may not even want any of the goodies on xmas. Your tastes will most likely change by then. I know there are temptations but what's more important, your health or the goodies. Just a thought. :) Carol

I plan to start next monday at the latest. I figure I can get two full weeks of it in.

If i mess up over the holidays, i will go back to phase one on Jan 2 and do the two weeks of the phase one again.

Does this sound sensible?I'd start sooner but I have to get the right foods. I keep buying more and more each trip. But want to be sure i have enough of the right stuff for a few days. I dont want to go to the grocery every day.

I am with you -Beth - I started around mid-October (after a very busy weekend eating "bad" foods) and knew I would be having to get through Thanksgiving. I did cheat a bit - had some stuffing and cheesecake. And GAWD it tasted good!! Then went home, exercised, and did Phase 1 for a couple days. No long-term damage done. I also plan to eat a little "bad" on Christmas Day, just for 1 meal. We don't keep candy in the house around the holidays anyway so it won't be an issue. I quit smoking about 8 yrs ago - same thing, took me about 10 tries and then finally gave them up for good, no more excuses!

Ok stepping down off my soapbox now..... hope everyone is enjoying (surviving?) the holiday season.

To be honest I did not do good at all the last 3 weeks of November. I did think at one point, maybe I'll just scrap the whole SB concept and begin again Jan 1. Then I thought I will actually be making it harder on myself in Jan...LOL I have also noticed my headaches coming back and I am not sleeping as well...not tomention my stomach going nuts! I started Phase one yesterday and I am looking forward to a loss as well as feeling healthier.

You don't need to punish yourself by going all the way back to Phase

1.

If you'll just get back on a healthy Phase 2, you'll gradually lose

those gained pounds.

I don't know why but any weight I gain from being naughty comes off

alot easier than the weight I've carried for years.

I don't think of phase 1 as a punishment. I am looking forward to getting

back on track.

I agree. Actually phase 1 makes me thinks consciously of what I am

putting in my mouth and body. I feel more in control on phase 1. Of

course more than 2 weeks on it would be kinda restrictive and become

boring over time. In my time since I started this group, (and SBD

the first time), and my fall off the wagon I have looked at many

other diet plans. I am back here because I believe that SBD is the

only plan that will teach me the discipline and control I need for

eating healthily, and it is the only plan that I could live on for

the rest of my life. It is no where as restrictive as other plans,

believe me! And I am beginning to think that the restrictive plans

set us up for failure right from the start.

I also learnt something recently that made me stop and think:

1. Food only tastes bad until you swallow it. After that it doesn't

need to taste good, it needs to nuture, heal and be good for your

body. (this is why I choose to not use artificial sweetners of ANY

KIND! even splenda.)

We all fall off our bikes when we first learn to ride. Do not be so

hard on yourself that you never get back on. It is only thru

persistance that you eventually master the skill. And does it really

matter how many times you fell off when you finally get it right?
