Guest guest
I'm confused a little here after reading this yesterday and then a couple of the e-mails today. Are you finding that high blood pressure meds that are beta blockers can block thyroid meds or affect T4 in other ways? Reason I ask is cause I have been on Benicar HCT for 3 or 4 years now and my Free T4 labs are always low. Mine have never been above 0.8 on any lab work I can remember for a very long time. The lab range for my results are 0.8 to 1.8 Benicar is a beta blocker. Hypertension meds Well I have learned another lesson the hard way so I will pass it along. Anyone here on hypertension meds? Do a Google search fro the generic drug name + Thyroid if you are! I usually do this btu as this was recommended by a friend's doctor for their problems with high blood pressure and Low Aldosterone I thought it might also be a good med for me... NOT!!! Ramipril is what I was taking, and after NOW looking it u it is another Beta Blocker. This past 10 days I had been getting sicker and sicker with my glucose rising to illness levels and feelign so exhausted I was sleeping 12-15 hours a day again. All the thiughts running through my head... Bad batch of T3 ruined by the heat... Mold exposure again as I am still in this moldy house, Adrenal reaction to lowering steroids too fast,... Well none of the above. It was the stupid BP meds. I found ONE tiny study wiht a blurb about it lowering thyroxine when I did a thorough search. I now have to climb out of Hypo Hell while it leaves my system. Bad thing is my BP wasn;t that bad, just a little higher than I liek for it to be so thought I was doing myself a favor by treating it., NOT!!! So another week to 10 days for this to leave and get back to feeling normal again and another set back in weaning off steroids. I ent back up to 15MG HC as I was feelign so bad I thought the weaning was not going well.. Guest guest
Benicar is relatively new drug and I cannot find any reference to it affecting thyroid in the body, however, if you have a choice, wiht hypothyroidism I would avoid Beta Blockers. Most the time whne we are hypo high blood pressure can be caused by either high cortiosl trying ot cover for the low thyroid or fluid retention. In these cases Diuretic type hypertension meds may be the better choice, and if they are not sufficient, thne an ace inhibitor. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
