Guest guest
I have been doing a lot of exercise for the past 9 years & at a level I feel is "Intermediate Intensity". I am fortunate to live in foothills to the mountains & the steep grades make for more intense walks than flat land does (this year I explanded to walking the uphills & jog the downhills to make it harder yet). I have cut this back to no more than 5 miles a day for the past 3 years because it gets too hard to consistently fit more than 1 1/2 hours of exercise into my daily routine. I cannot always fit it in every single day of every week, but I usually do fit all of it into my days. My doctor had ran a diabetic test on me & told me I am not yet a diabetic, but I will be unless I exercise & lose weight, & if I do these things I may never become a diabetic, but at the very least I will stall that happening for a lot more years. I took this very seriously because my father was a diabetic who would not do the things he had to do & I watched the toll it took on his physical body & diabetes was a slow meticulous deadly killer that took 25 years to totally destroy his body & his brain. My genes were suddenly my enemy. I have a neighbor who was told the same thing at the same time I was told this, she did not exercise & she did not watch her diet either & less than a year later, she was a full fledged diabetic & she say's she wishes she had done what I did. I was able to exercise with no problem, but I could not find a diet that would make me lose weight & I was very worried about this because my doctor had said I have to also lose weight, but it would not budge. I had always been thin until I hit age 50 & then my system changed & I started gaining weight even though all I did was eat diet food all the time. About 5 years after my doctor told me about my odds of becoming a diabetic unless I lose weight & exercise, now I was suddenly told that my prior low cholesterol had changed to high ( & with the same recommendation of exercise & lose weight). I decided I need help, so I joined Weight Watchers then new points system & they assured me their diet works on everyone & has never failed to work on anyone. I was excited because I felt they would teach me how to eat right & I will now lose weight, but their diet never did work on me. I noticed that it did seem to fail on people who were already doing a lot of exercise & of course I was already doing a lot of exercise before I ever joined. Their two top Leaders in this area worked with me for 9 months & trying everything they knew to get their diet to kick in & work for me, but after 9 months of non stop diet & lots of exercise on their program, I only lost 6 lbs. The finally told me there must be something wrong with my system & I need to see a doctor (I was already also doing that) & that they don't know anything else to try. I knew that Atkins diet had always worked better for me than low fat diets, but Atkins diet always stopped working on me after a few lbs (but at least it would keep me from gaining more lbs). Then I started hearing about the SBD, but everyone always told me it is "a lot like Atkins diet". I knew Atkins only works for me to hold my weight & not to lose any weight, so I felt SBD would be no different & I did not try it for 9 more months. I started the diet not because I felt I would lose any weight, but because I felt it would lower my cholesterol that I feared my doctor would put me on statins unless I got it lowered soon. In 3 weeks time, my cholesterol lowered by 52 points & into the good range & also my glucose dropped from 100 to 90 & I lost 30 lbs & went back into comfortable (not tight) size 12. I really wanted to lose at least 15 more lbs, but the weight loss stopped & I am now wondering if maybe joining a spa & doing some strength training exercises 3 days a week (I would be willing to hire a personal trainer to set up a program for me, if need be), & continue my cardio the other 4 days a week. I am very happy to have lost the 30 lbs that I did lose & even better than that was the improved glucose & cholesterol. I have been on SBD diet since early March of this year & I love the foods & have no desire to eat any other way & , in fact, have in these months have only encountered one day of wrong foods when I went on a one day bus trip to Mexico & the foods served were pre-arranged & there was not a sugar free salad dressing alternative. I do continue to check my blood lipids every 2 months & my cholesterol remains in the good range & so does my glucose. I bought all new clothes & am ever so pleased with how they look on me (but I would still prefer the size 10 I had hoped for but will not reach unless I lose at least 15 more lbs). I am wondering if anyone else has had a problem with weight gain due to their system changing at older ages & diets that are done 100% right & along with exercise not working for weight loss & does anyone know if join a spa & adding strength training to the program will truly work for losing weight or not. I hate to spend that much money only to have failure, but I am willing to spend what it takes if it will work. As I said at the beginning, I did not ever have a problem with diets not working or with my weight until I hit age 50, & it came as a very unpleasant surprise to me to suddenly have diets refuse to work on me. I feel very lucky to have found SBD & to have had it work as well as it has worked for my health & my weight (but I would prefer to tell it when to stop the wegith loss & not have that stopped at a level higher than my choosing). I have no problem doing however much exercise is necessary ( & have spent 6 1/2 hours a day exercising, but I am not willing to spend more than 1 1/2 hours a day doing it anymore. ..·´¨¨)) -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨))((¸¸.·´ ..·´ Sue -:¦:--:¦:- ((¸¸.·´ -:¦:-
Guest guest
I have read many many many MANY times that strength training does WAY more for losing weight than any aerobic exercise...I think that would DEFINATELY put you where you want to be!!! I LOVE your success story, thanks for sharing it!!!!! That's the size I want to get to also, size 10. I would be happy with a 12, but not TOTALLY happy. I'm at a 16/18 now. Some 16's fit, some are still too tight in the middle. Thanks! Kris Re: success stories?!?!??! Guest guest
I've been off and on SBD at the advice and urging of my endocrinologist since July. To date, I have lost 35 pounds, and have about 38 to go for goal. I have gone from a women's 22 to a size 16 in just 4 short months. That's one size per month average! I have just started exercising as part of my new life. I'm walking one mile per day, and hope that adding it in will get me over my plateau. I have more energy, and feel so much better about myself! What keeps me going? People notice! It's amazing - so many people I didn't even think knew who I am have stopped to tell me how fantastic I look. And if I look this fantastic half way to my goal, I can only imagine how great I will look and feel 38 pounds from now!
Guest guest
Running down hills can be very bad for the knees. Walk down the hills and run up the hills. More later, but Steve needs computer. BTW... what does WOE stand for???
