I truely believe that a very large weight loss that I dieted to do really

caused my symptoms to worsen. I " m sorry you are doing poorly and of course

I will keep you in my prayers.

About the insurance - you will have to check with your insurance company to

find out if they will cover out of state appointments. They are the ones

who make that determination. What kind of medical insurance do you have?

Laurie,

I'm glad you are taking some time off and reading is a nice thing to do when you are down. I also can imagine how difficult doing a lot of things must be. It's amazing how we find the way sometimes. We also learn how important our limbs are when we are faced with the challenge of somehow replacing them. I don't blame you aiming toward the least amount of pain.

I'm also glad to hear that the supervisor is taking charge of your work at school. You'll be appreciated more after this. Those disability forms are a hassle. I agree, you would think that 22 years into the program would give you some special privileges, but it never works that way. Of course, filling out forms must be your favorite thing to do right now.

You might want to consider online banking for bill paying if this goes on much longer. Last year, writing checks became overwhelming for me and I realized that if I was going to consider taking care of my own financial responsibilities, I was going to have to make some changes. It's much easier now. I cannot write for an extended period of time due to the weakness in my arms and hands. No one would believe my handwriting today compared to a year and a half ago.

It sounds like Kent and are trying to take care of you. That's especially nice. I'm glad you went to lunch with them. I know how nice it is when your children take you out to lunch.

I am being to like the retirement trial. It would be even better if I could get something done once in awhile besides dusting furniture. I am going to start taking pictures of my dolls for insurance purposes if I can figure out how to push the button with my left hand without getting my hand over the lens.

I have a pully at home and use it and other exercises to maintain range of motion. I am anxious to see what the doctor has to say about the shoulder when I see him on the 17th.

Laurie,

It sounds like you are making some progress. Those disability forms are a

pain in the arse. I wish you luck both in the process of filling them out

and in getting what is due to you after 22 years of very faithful service.

It sounds as if your supervisor is being supportive and that alone must be a

load off your mind. So, besides the pain are you liking this

" semi-retirement " trial?

As far as your healing goes...about 5 years ago I broke my shoulder in 3

places (I won't get into how)...anyway....I found very similarly to you that

passive motion was the first to return. The thing that helped me the most

in terms of achieving active functioning was to do the passive exercises in

a water environment. Before long I was able to do them without assistance

and then shortly after able to do them on dry land. Oh, and boy oh boy do I

understand about the bra thing. I didn't wear one for weeks. Prio to

finally going back to work I ended up having to take Jake (then 6) bra

shopping with me. I learned very quickly that front closure bras are MUCH

easier to deal with.

I'm glad your finding some fun things to do in your time off, and that your

kids are helping out where needed.

Typing with my pull out keyboard is one thing I can do. I still have to use

the mouse with my left hand. The pain is reduced and actually absent when I

am not moving around. I have great range of motion passively, but still have

almost no active function at all. I am learning how to do things with my

left hand and forearms. Probably the most difficult and painful thing is

putting on a bra, so I stay in my nightgown on non-therapy days. I am

sleeping better which is helping.

My supervisor is coming here to go over some of the stuff I had started, but

not finished. They have a sub to see my students, so I will stay home as

long as needed. I am still filling out short term disability forms. I've

paid for this for 22 years and now have to turn cartwheels to get it.

Writing is possible with my right hand, but it takes me longer and I can't

do lots at one time. I managed to get my bills paid after 3 days of working

on them.

I met Kent and for lunch today and they took laundry back to their

place to do for me. I went to the store after that and bought 5 books, so I

can sit around for some time yet.

Thanks for asking,

laurie

I don't see the orthopedic surgeon for another three weeks. I am hoping he will talk with my therapist once he has the reports. My neuro was going to FAX his report today. I think it will depend on the extent of the tear, but my neuro is hoping surgery won't be necessary. He did say that he didn't think I should try to work and do therapy at the same time. He figured that the therapy would not be as beneficial. I guess time will tell, but I am hopeful that things will improve at a more rapid rate now that some progress has been made.

Thanks for asking,

Laurie got some good news at the neuro's today, but I will let her give

you the details when she gets home. We had a nice visit and lunch and

then she headed back home a little while later. Of course, she ran into

a hugh traffic jam so her arrival home is delayed.

laurie,

im thinking about trying lamictal since im being weened off of gabatril and

keppra for the tests in the hospital. I might just ask my neuro to try

lamictal instead of gabatril since its been suggested to do so. gabatril can

cause probs with the stomach ive read and i think it might not be the best

med for me. keppra has almost stopped my myoclonic seizures which is a

blessing (i was put on it first before gabitril and it only helped the

myoclonic seizures not the others- then gabatril was added and it seemed to

do the job- for awhile.) Oxycontin i didnt like at all, worse than the

morphine, it made my seizures act up and tremors too and made me wired. I was

supposed to see my pain dr on an emergency visit today for a new pain med,

but the snow made him close his office, im hoping to get to see him tomorrow

(though ive got other appts tomorrow, it will be a busy day). anyways, thanks

for the info and all. hope you are doing well.

take care,

adrienne

Thank you for the report. I've been waiting for this.

I'm glad there were no problems with anesthesia but

I'm sorry that the surgeon was not able to do what was

hoped. How did Laurie take this?

Please send my love and tell her I am always here when

she's ready.

No, . Not exactly worried but concerned and

anxious to know how she made out. I kinda figured

she'd be a little depressed. I would be.

Well..we now need to cheer her up and get her on the

road to happier days. The surgery is behind her and

at least that's a good thing.

Send me her address and phone number privately please.

I lost it when my computer crashed.

Hi,

Laurie did not end up coming home from the hospital today

after all. The surgeon wants to be good and sure that things

are OK before he lets her go home. She is guessing maybe

Friday, since she also had an allergic reaction to something

today. She doesn't know if it was the antibiotic she has been

on since the surgery or the oral pain killer they started her on

today. My guess is the pain killer.

Will do. I think this is good (her staying in the hospital) as I think she is

going to

have a rougher time of things at home alone than she thought.

Dear , thanks for the update and please give my best to

Laurie. I am sorry she had the allergic reaction and hope she is

feeling better. I often think it is better for us people with multiple

problems be kept longer in the hospital as our recovery is more

difficult. (They kept me in longer than normal after a

hysterectomy)Celia

Yes,there is a great deal of pain. Getting in and out of bed and chairs are the worse.. My arm is strapped to my body and cannot move it except to wiggle my fingers.

Thanks for asking and caring.

Hi Laurie,

I hope you are recovering nicely. How is the pain level from the surgery? Are you able to use your arm any at all yet? I am so sorry to hear that you won't be able to put your arm over your head again, but remember , the doctors do not always take into account the will of the human spirit. Not to mention that they certainly are not always right!!!!:) About a lot of things heh?

My prayers for a speedy and full recovery are with you,

Oh, Laurie, I am so sorry about the pain: I would take some of it onto myself if I could. Nature has its own timetable, and it very seldom matches ours, but I hope you do have time to rest while nature does its work.

With love and a hug,
