Yes -you should get another opinion from your original doctor and see what he

says before you " rock the boat " with changing your meds-

I'm concerned and wondered if someone can help me out. When I went to the EP

two months ago he said I would be on sotalol and Digitek for the rest of my

life. Two weeks ago when I saw my cardiologist, he said I should stay on both

at least for now. Yesterday, the EP said I could go off the Digitek and now I

am afraid to do so! Is this used for rate control? Will I go into afib if I

stay on the sotalol and discontinue the Digitek?

Have any of you taken it and then stopped - what happened, any more episodes?

Loretta,

I was on digoxin during my first hospital stay, but it was making me

depressed and crying for no reason. So, I was taken off of it cold

turkey and sent home with cardizem. Ended up adding toprol for

breakthrough flutters. Eventually, ended up in perm afib on those

meds and was put on tikosyn. Had to stay on cardizem for 3 mo and

toprol for 6mo. I cut the toprol dosage, but am finally at 12 mo

weaning myself off of the last 25mg of toprol.

So, stopping digoxin cold turkey apparently has no major side effects

(or didn't for me, anyway). You can always go back on it if you begin

to have problems. Otherwise, rejoice that you get rid of a med!!

In my case, once I saw the EP, my care was no longer being provided

by the cardiologist...don't really need both Drs for afib, and EP is

the expert.
