I guess I am one of the " lucky " ones > with a long perimenopause! > > Suzy > Can I ask at what you started the peri?? I was 39. I am soon to be 42 but I had an ovary removed years ago and I swear it has something to do with my early symptoms. I clearly remember two things the first week after the surgery. 1) I no longer slept well..I wake at every noise and 2) I had trouble with words. They would be right at the tip of my tongue and I could not spit it out. Horrible! One doctor says yes it does matter that I have one ovary and one says no. I can't see how the other ovary can really take over for the missing one. I would think it would tire out faster and sputter then gasp and die from double duty. Guest guest
> I started at age 39, too. So here I am, almost 46, > and still having hot flashes, night sweats, heart > flutters, etc. And still bleeding pretty regularly!! > > Suzy > I have night sweats and had 1 hot flash a while ago. I do have times where I am roasting hot and sweating and the rest of the family is cold. I guess I just don't " flash " . Then I am freezing sometimes! Heart palpatations (have it right now), tension, irritable and weepy (just like my daughter), irregular cycles that have gone from 32 days to 22-27 days, hard time dropping weight, fatigue, can't stay asleep, anxiety (panic attacks), low/no libido. My burning tongue is listed as a symptom too. I think my other 2% of burning still is going to be an issue until I get thru the peri..or so I hope. I have times where a doctor will say my vagina is " friable " which means it bleeds to touch and other times it looks healthy as can be. So I am going to assume it is the imbalance from month to month that causes me more symptoms one time and less another month. Of course, at 42 I am FINALLY old enough to start peri in the medical eyes. At 39 they said I was too young and even at 42 they say it is " not normal " . Oh well..I can't tell the symptoms that it is too soon and they will listen and go away. Do you think your vaginal/vulvar problems could be related to the peri? Guest guest
> > > Can you give me details on how your doctor checked your ph? > > Maureen My gyno checks my pH at every visit. He just does a swab inside the vagina (stay away from the cervix as you don't want the cervical pH). He then wiped it on this credit card thing he had and it gives him the pH. He writes that down. Hormones can cause a rise in pH as well: http://www.womenshealth.com/patientinfo/menonewsletter/perimenochange. html Vaginal dryness. The cells in the vagina are sensitive to estrogen. When estrogen levels fall, the pH of vaginal tissue increases. The tissue becomes thinner, drier, and more susceptible to infection. When estrogen is present, the pH decreases. When estrogen levels fall, vaginal dryness and thinning can make intercourse uncomfortable. Here are three tests the doctor can do for Vaginal pH. My doctor used the FemExam Test Card. FemTek pHEM-ALERT Litmus Concepts FemExam Test Card Quidel QuickVue Advance pH and Amines Test You can buy some here but they are very expensive..42.00 for 5!! Hopefully they will come down in price when they are sold over the counter. I hear that is coming soon like the in home UTI test etc. http://www.1cascade.com/femexam_bacterial_vaginosis_cards Lynn
