Guest guest
Jane--I use the Bob's Red Mill GF mix and add in my own "extras" (orange peel, poppy seeds, agave nectar for added sweetness, etc.). It's quite tasty, with nice texture (a TEENY bit rubbery instead of totally soft, but decent for sure). I bought Roben Ryber's book "The Gluten Free Kitchen", and I'm looking forward to making some breads from there. Miss Roben's also sells mixes for many different kinds of breads you can make in an oven or bread machine. Haven't found a REALLY great one yet from the store--decent, but not great. Guest guest
--Where do you get the Bette Hagman's Tapioca bread mix? Or do you make your own from her flour blend recipe (which I know I have here somewhere, but have no clue where)? Marilyn
Guest guest
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, . I do have two of her books, and I was planning on making up some mixes this weekend, so I'll probably make this one, too. Marilyn
Guest guest
You can look up Irene Sorghum bread from the files on the yahoo site. I use this all the time. It is soft and delicious. My kids come snitch plain bread slices each loaf I slice. I attached a copy for you Jane. Cheryl in Colorado jboutelle@... wrote: Is there any GF bread that tastes good and has a reasonable texture? I haven't even tried it for a while (my son's been GF for several years now). Any good bread recipes? Thanks, Jane
Guest guest
I use Bette Hagman's Tapioca bread for my daughter and even my other 2 non celiac children like it! I have to make the bread when they are not around because they would eat a whole loaf! My husband even would eat it! I have also used the Four Flour Bean bread and my daughter likes that as well. She does seem to prefer the Tapioca bread however. We have used the Four Flour Bean mix to make a caramel pecan roll and she loves that too! The only thing about it is that it really requires a Kitchen Aid to make it. Hope you can find one your family likes!
Guest guest
Marilyn , I use her recipe in her cook book. It is quite easy and doesn't take a lot of flours. If I remember correctly I only use the rice flour and the tapioca flours. I hope that helps.
Guest guest
Have to check. I just bought a bunch of mixes, and this might be one of them. If not, I'll be looking for it next time! Marilyn
Guest guest
Gluten Free Pantry puts out a Sandwich Bread Mix which I really like. You just add eggs, water and oil. If you have a breadmaker, it's so easy. Not being much of a cook, it's been a lifesaver for me. It's a little pricey at a place like Wild Oats (about $5.75), but through a coop (I belong to one in the Salt Lake City area), you can get a loaf for closer to $4 per if you buy a case of 6.
