Guest guest
Has anyone ever experienced this? My daughter is receiving PT for torticollis. She gets it once a week for 30 min. She was doing really well and suddenly this week it is like she has tort all over again. Her head is really tilting to the side and I haven't seen that in a while. She has been really tired lately...I don't know. Maybe she is going through a growth spurt and I am wondering if she is tired maybe that is making her tilt more. I know she isn't sick...just needing to sleep more. Anyway...just wondering if anyone has ever seen torticollis get much better and then suddenly come back with a crazy tilt. Thanks...Shari
Guest guest
Hi Shari- My daughter Emma has been going to pt for tort since sept 2. She's been getting a TON better...even the therapist said that she was a best-case-scenerio baby. Then last week, whaddya know, tilted way over again! I hadn't changed anything...and of course i think it's my fault. I totally don't get it. She's 5 months, and gaining a lot of torso strength (learning to sit, etc.) so maybe she's concentrating so hard on that she forgets about her neck? I don't know, but it stresses me out. I thought we were almost in the clear! Sorry I don't have any advice, but I'm going through the same thing, if that helps. Our pt said they just go through phases. (Great) I keep hearing from people that their kid had tort, now they're fine...I can't wait until I'm one of those people!!! , mommy to Emma, 5 mo. Guest guest
Hi Shari It is normal that tort regresses when they are tired / milestoning / teething / growing. Keep on doing the streches. Hang in there Sandy WIllow's Mom torticollis resolved Cranio Germany Grad --- In Plagiocephaly , " sbcollns " <sbcollns@y...> wrote: > > Has anyone ever experienced this? Guest guest
My son was in PT for 2.5 months for tort, between 2 and 4.5 months old. I didn't continue with exercises once he was released. I don't think our PT told us to, or if she did, I just didn't do them. I never noticed any issues or regression with it. I did get worried when he finally started walking at 15-16 months. We're late walkers in our family (my daughter was 14.5m, my nephew was 15m), so that wasn't my concern as much as his technique was. He lead with his right foot and swung his left foot (his weak side) around to meet it. I have read that tort can be linked to hip dysplatia (which also runs in my husband's family), so I did get him checked out at that point, but it had nothing to do with the tort, just general muscle development, and he's walking like a pro now. His range of motion was just checked before banding by two doctors, so I'm know that he hasn't regressed at all yet. But I will keep an eye out for it as our banding process continues. Definitely do the exercises if that's what you're directed to do. And maybe just get him evaluated every once in a while to make sure it's not regressing. I'm sure the ped could check his range of motion at every well visit just to give you some peace of mind. Or go back to your PT. Our sessions got spaced out more as we got towards the end of treatment. Maybe you can go back every other month just to get it checked. Good luck! Guest guest
He will be a year at the end of this month...Before we started PT they ordered an exray of his neck to rule out any spinal abnormalities before stretching the area...at that time, the radiologist reported seeing a tissue mass that was near his airway, so we were immediately referred to an ENT specialist...she put a camera down his throat and saw nothing, so we had a CT scan to be sure which came out perfectly normal..after all of that, i would say his anatomy checks out, and we have seen great improvement with the pt so far...He is not walking yet, but neither is his identical twin (was banded for brachy, but no tort) so I'm not overly concerned at this point...also, they were about 5 wks early which could be affecting the " delay " . My daughter walked at 11 mos, but was a full term baby. I'm having them retest him for motor skill development to be sure he is right on track before we slow the treatment any further. We are still going once a week, as opposed to twice, so we will see what happens from here...I just want to be proactive with the regression if possible...thanks Shenelle Katy, TX > > My dd is 27 months old and still has tort.? When she was about 18 mo and her tort was still not resolved the drs ordered a CT and then an MRI of her spine.? At first we thought she had rotatory subluxation - but that was found to not be there.? The MRI showed abnormalities in her spinal cord that are actually causing the torticollis.? All the PT in the world won't help my dd. > > How old is your child??
