Guest guest
Bennie, Hmmmm... taking a " drug holiday " . I've heard of it before and wondered how anyone actually did it! I'm on another support group specifically for people with RSD. One of the RSD treatments that is getting some traction these days is ketamine infusion. The patient is put into a controlled " coma " for several days and is infused with ketamine. The goal is to reset the nervous system receptors to right the whacked out nerves that are present with RSD. I believe someone said (and I certainly could have misunderstood) that the patient needs to titrated off of all narcotics and non-narcotics such as gabapentin or lyrica before treatment. I don't know how long the patient needs to be off pain meds before ketamine infusion starts. It's hard to imagine life for even a few hours without pain meds! Finding the right combo of pain meds is important for better quality of life. But the simple fact is that our bodies grow to tolerate these drugs over time and we may need to change in order to get good pain relief consistently.
