Guest guest
Dear Adam; Welcome to the group. A place to find information on Transplant Centers is " Transplant Living (UNOS) " : http://www.transplantliving.org/ Once at this page, click on " Find a Center " Step 1: select a member type: select " Transplant Centers by Organ " and then select " Liver " Step 2: select an option to filter your results: e.g. select region " All Regions " (this will list all liver transplant centers in the US), or select a specific state or region. Enter " Go " ; the resulting table gives names, locations, and phone numbers for each of the centers. You might also visit the The U.S. Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network and the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients: 2003 Annual Report (OPTN/SRTR) Data Tables, and look at their Table 9.13: Transplants by State and Transplant Center, 1993 to 2002 (Liver) http://www.optn.org/AR2003/913_li.htm This gives you an idea of numbers of transplants performed at each center. This latter resource can be " mined " for further information about each center. I hope that you will remain asymptomatic for many years and will not need this information any time soon. Best regards, Dave (father of (19); PSC 07/03; UC 08/03)
Guest guest
Adam, As a vet you are intitled to use the VA system. Your base hospital or medic should be able to give you a recommendation. Don't be in to big a hurry for a transplant. You could remain asymptomatic for quite a while. Be patient and work with your doctor. Learn the symptoms, watch, and wait. Sorry you had the diagnosis. We all know the feeling. It is not all that scary. Good luck. Guest guest
When we met with the surgeons at the monthly liver transplant meeting, they were asked about VA transplants. They said there were only two VA hospitals doing liver transplants. BUT... they were working with the VA hospital here in Indianapolis to hopefully be doing them soon. The gentleman that asked the question said he has been working on the paperwork for 18 months! Kathy wife of Lonnie ltx 6/2/04 GOOD NEWS -- he's down to only FOUR medications (prograf, levaquin, maginex and Zantac)! WOOHOO! > Adam, > As a vet you are intitled to use the VA system.
