Hi Lee;

Sorry you couldn't access this article. I'm guessing that it is

because you may not have " Adobe Acrobat Reader " installed on your

computer, and so you may not be able to open " portable document

files " (i.e. files that are of type .pdf)? Since your son is 21, then

you are quite correct that his elevated alkaline phosphatase would

not be due to normal bone growth, and so this article may not be

relevant.

My wife, Judy, and I lived in East Lansing, MI, in the late 70's. I

have fond memories of the Michigan State University campus where Judy

and I met. I visited Pfizer, Ann Arbor, MI last November, and very

much enjoyed my brief stay there. We now live in West Lafayette,

Indiana.

Best regards,

Dave

> Dear Dave,

one of my concerns with my son's condition is that he started taking

allergy shots shortly before his symptoms started. Do you know of any

connection? How many other PSC patients have had allergy shots? My

son's allergist says there is no connection but it makes me nervous

when The PSC is supposedly an immune problem and of course taking the

shots is messing with that. Have you run across any articles on this?

PS I notice that was diagnosed first with the PSC. Is this just

because he had the ERCP first? It was the UC symptoms that sent us to

the Dr. who thought that he had IBS and so he had a colonoscopy first

which showed the UC. Then his blood work showed the raised liver

enzymes and anemia. His ERCP showed intrahepatic and extrahepatic

changes of PSC.

Hi Lee;

I have not read of any direct connection between receiving allergy

shots and developing UC/PSC, but I will try to do some research on

this for you. did have some allergies as a young boy, and was

prescribed claritin. But he did not have any " allergy shots " .

was diagnosed with PSC first [by ERCP] and then they decided to check

for UC [because of the assocation of PSC with inflammatory bowel

disease]. He was basically asymptomatic, apart from elevated serum

liver enzymes ALT, AST, ALP and GGT.

Best regards,

Thanks Dave,

I really appreciate your helpful information and I really appreciate

your looking for any articles on the allergy shots. I tried google but

nothing came up. . Did they find your son's PSC just because he

happened to have a blood test? What made him go to the doctor? For my

son it was the frequent diarrhea and weight loss that sent us.

My son had the same elevated enzymes ALT, AST, and ALP, but what is the

GGT?

Does have any UC symptoms now? Have you found a diet that a

young man can live with ie : pizza, macaroni and cheese, fast food?

The only thing that is not a problem for us is drinking. Bill never

wanted to and didn't like the taste the couple of times he tried an

alcoholic beverage. Thank goodness.
