Hi ,

All apologies for not responding sooner. . . . I have also had trouble with

recurring BV. Right before I left to see my folks for Christmas, I visited my NP

for the same reason, and she recommended trying Replens.

Replens is a very mild (I think) gel that can be purchased over-the-counter at

your local pharmacy. It's billed as a vaginal moisturizer, but what it does is

so clever: the gel has the same pH that a healthy vagina should have, so when

you use it it returns the vaginal pH to " normal. " As I'm sure you know, BV is

caused by an increase in pH, so Replens treats the cause, not the symptoms. I

bought a package that contains a reusable applicator and a tube with 14

applications in it. Or so it says.

I was instructed to use Replens twice a week for as long as I want to maintain a

healthy pH. After just one week, I went back to the doctor to be checked for BV

and *IT WAS GONE!* Hoorahs all around, I was thrilled. And I've had no side

effects from the gel so far (a couple weeks later). You might just want to use a

liner pad since you'll have a little extra discharge.

Here are the ingredients: Purified water, glycerin, mineral oil, polycarbophil,

carbomer 934P, Hydrogenated Palm Oil glyceride, sorbic acid, methylparaben,

sodium hydroxide. (I don't know what these are after mineral oil, but I asked my

doctor and she said that they would not hurt me in any way.)

Best wishes,

Kirstyn

Hi All,

I've been suffering with VV for about 4 years, however for the past 5 months I have has recurring BV with no explanation. I follow the sanitary guidelines, no new meds, no new sex partner. I was treated w/ cldymicin orally and then metriozale orally and then vaginally for 5 days and then 1x a week for 5 weeks and I think it's coming back for a fourth time in 5 months. Any ideas what is could be from?

Thanks,

Kelli
