Guest guest
Hey folks, Quite a few of you here seem to have some wisdom on the effects of antidepressants. Does anyone have any experience or opinions about using a drug called Wellbutrin in order to help with a nicotine addiction? I've faced the fact that I've gotta give up the smokes... I would like to make this as painless as possible though! Guest guest
Hi Sue Wellbutrin is itself an anti-depressant that appears to be also useful in helping ppl stop smoking. It may well be worth a try. Good luck, Pete " sue styd " wrote: original article:/group/12-step-free/?start=12636 > > Hey folks, > > Quite a few of you here seem to have some wisdom on the > effects of antidepressants. > Does anyone have any experience or opinions about using > a drug called Wellbutrin in order to help with a nicotine > addiction? > I've faced the fact that I've gotta give up the smokes... > I would like to make this as painless as possible though! > > Sue > > > > > >Reply-To: 12-step-freeegroups > >To: <12-step-freeeGroups> > >Subject: Re: Everybody please take a chill pill! > >Date: Thu, 17 Feb 2000 15:03:00 -0800 > > > > > >Jim, > >Thank you Jim. Guest guest
Yes Sue, I used Wellbutrin under the manufacture's name Zyban last year to help me quit. Didn't do a damn thing--I mean nothing, nada. I have heard some people say that it helped but this was not my experience. The patch worked great though. llawrence@... Guest guest
As it happens, the worst depression I ever experienced, and the only time in my life when I was literally obsessed with suicidal thoughts, occurred when I had been taking Wellbutrin and not smoking for about 2.5 months. I have tried to stop smoking many times, and I always seem to run into a brick wall at some point, usually after 3-5 months without nicotine. Usually it's some kind of depression -- which I experience as an all-encompassing feeling of apathy and worthlessness. But the time with Wellbutrin was by far the worst. Of course there were other things going on that might have contributed, such as going to AA meetings. Who knows? At any rate, as soon as I started smoking again the Wellbutrin worked marvelously :-) --wally Re: Everybody please take a chill pill! >>Date: Thu, 17 Feb 2000 15:03:00 -0800 >> >> >>Jim, >>Thank you Jim. Guest guest
I've taken Wellbutrin (advertised as Zyban for quitting smoking) and I can say that it does make not smoking okay, but doesn't take away the desire to smoke. I guess it has a physiological effect, but not a psychological one, but of course I am no expert on such things. Guest guest
Hi Sue, I used Zyban about 6 months ago, did nothing for me either, but it worked great for my wife. Just depends on the person from what I can gather from anyone else I have know to use it also. About 50 50. Guest guest
I believe Wellbutrin can also have negative effects on the vascular system. My two brothers and I have all taken it. It has not bothered me much, but both my brothers developed something like bruises around their feet and ankles, which I believe was attributed to burst blood vessels or something like that.
