Dear Amy,

A nebulizer is a device that is used to give " breathing treatments " . It uses

a bronchodilator to open breathing passages. The medication is also in

inhalers--we use an inhaler for Staci when we're away from home and don't

have the nebulizer. The machine pumps room air through a tube, into the

bottom of a closed cup with a mouthpiece or mask at one side and an air vent

at the other side. The cup has a small amount of saline and the medication

in it. The air going into it, through the saline and medication, turns it

into a very fine mist that is inhaled, deep into the lungs. The treatment

takes about 10 or so minutes.

Hope this is understandable, and helps.
