Guest guest
Anyone who is familiar with the nature of cats quickly comes to realize it is impossible to train cats to do ANYTHING. Guest guest
My sister and I both have dogs, and we both clap our hands to get our dogs to pay attention to us. One day I was at her house and she clapped her hands, and then she threatened her dog: " If you don't behave, I'm gonna hit myself REAL HARD! " If you knew her, she is the sweetest, gentlest person, would never intentionally hurt anyone or anything--it totally cracked me up. Guest guest
This is a true story: Once a postgraduate student wanted to study training in cats. Her supervisor advised her not to use cats, since she said, when the cat worked out what it is you wanted it to do it would refuse to do it! This was reported in " Introduction to Psychology " a textbook oftend used as the bvasic course material for degree is Psychology. P. Guest guest
Hi Pete; I never try to train them to affirmatively do something, just to NOT do a few things I think it's the disassociation in the cat's mind between the trainer and the squirt bottle that does the trick. Well, I told a small fib. I did train Lover Boy that my end table by the picture window was an okay for him to walk on, but the desks and counters and TV trays are off limits. I was a tad afraid I'd confuse him, but so far he's got the idea. Lots of places he could easily get on, but doesn't. One important part to remember is WHAT exactly I'm teaching him. Like Rose putting Mr Lynx outdoors when he scratched my chair. Then when he wanted outside, he scratched the chair. She only did that twice, but I could not turn him around so I gave up. Lover Boy is an intact tomcat. I make no effort to enforce discipline when there's a tabby in heat outside and he's bouncing off the walls. Right now I'm in a black hole financially, but some time this year I'll have him fixed. It will take a couple of years to mellow him, since he's already 3. It would be downright impossible for me to overestimate his importance in this early alcohol free period(Fooled ya', I didn't say Sober) The thought of something bad happening to him as a result of my alcohol abuse is unbearable. His companionship and timing are impeccable. If I'm sitting here spacing off, feeling shitty, he's on my lap and in my face. However, if as now I'm typing, he's up on my lap and lays down so I can type over him. I think it's no mystery why folks with cats and dogs live longer than folks with no pet. Well, I've been on the go for 32 straight hours and I better sign off before I fall asleep.

Guest guest
What us cat people need to do now is to send our cats' pictures to the vault! Then get back to 12-step-free! jan > >
