Guest guest
Hello, We did some number crunching today. has grown 4 cm in 4 1/2 months. Her neurologist said that this is on the low side for growth, but that her head is making a nice curve at the 3rd percentile. Four cm is a little more than 1 1/2 inches. What kind of growth have other families seen in 4 months. Just was wondering how her growth compared to others. Thanks 's Mommy

Guest guest
Hi I've consulted my cranio-facial specialist about this as my daughter also has slow growth and a small head on the charts, but in reality, her head looks just fine! It dropped from 50th percentile at birth to 9th at about 4/5 months, which is where it is now at 10 1/2 months. However, the key is whether it is following a nice curved line at that percentile. It may be small, but this means it is growing normally. Your daughter sounds like she is following the curve, which is what is important, and it also sounds like your neurologist is on top of the situation. Having a small head in itself is not an issue (and I have to say my daughter's head looks perfectly normal in size, so you have to remember growth charts are just tools that tell you about what happens if you average out all the heads of children in the population, they don't tell you much more). The only concern is if there is no growth and you start to see problems, such as significant developmental delay. If your daughter is developing normally, there is no need for concern (remembering that children do vary wildy in when they hit their milestones, my daughter only started rolling at eight months which is late, now she is standing unaided for a few seconds at a time at 10 1/2 months, which is spot on). Of course it makes sense to continue to see the neurologist if you feel concerned to monitor the growth. By the way, the helmet did not affect growth in our case- my daughter's head grew on the line whilst in the band- it was just smaller to start with. Hope this helps Hannah (mum to Lucia, London, UK) Corrected Plagio, Cranio helmet grad Hanah > > > > Hello, > > > > We did some number crunching today. has grown 4 cm in 4 1/2 > > months. Guest guest
, How old is ? My son, Dylan, was banded at 10 months old and wore it (a Starband) for 5 months. During that time, he only grew 3/8 of an inch. We were hoping for a half of an inch but he wasn't growing on a curve on the chart. He was banded kind of late in the game. His growth kind of jumped around. He eventually just stopped growing in head circumference so we decided to stop the helmet therapy. I have noticed some improvement within the last month (he's now 18 months old). I was surprised to see post- graduation rounding but he looks great now and the helmet was definitely worth it! You can check out his pictures under " Dylan F " . Beth Grand Rapids, MI > > Hello, > > We did some number crunching today. has grown 4 cm in 4 1/2 > months.
