Guest guest
You're right Janet is at home & doing wonderfully .. and was very pleased with Dr. Forse. I don't believe she is subbed to our list but we have talked a few times on the telephone and last time I spoke to her at a week post op she was doing great. As for Dr. Forse I haven't heard anything negative about him either. As for the death, while tragic, we don't know the answers until she contacts you. I would also suggest calling your doctor's office & expressing your concern .. It could be a post op complication that is not related to the particular surgeon ... as with any surgery there is a risk for death. You're right it is a reality check and people have to access the risks and be aware of this possibility. I know if this had happened with my surgeon I would asked for some information. Perhaps you could contact Dr. Forse and speak with him directly. He should as a surgeon be able to honestly and openly let you know of any situation like that .. to make you aware of facts and be reassured. Hope you get a reply back, hang in there! Guest guest
, I'm not sure, but I don't think it's quite the same. You really just have to weigh the risks and benefits and see how you feel. Really give it some thought, and if you decide to go for it, don't second guess yourself :-) - Alice A.
Guest guest
It IS scary, but some people do die from this surgery. The average is 1-2%. If a doctors track record is better, well, thats great! If it is worse, I'd want to know why. It is important to find out WHY she died, and whether her death could have been prevented with better care. I'd want to know why she died, so I'd speak to the sister. I'd also talk to dr forse....I'd ask him what HIS mortality rate is, and then ask him for details about any deaths or serious complications his patients have had. And that's not just for dr forse. I asked those questions of every doc I considered. If a doc has had a patient (or patients) die, that does not necessarily mean he is a bad surgeon or a bad choice for you. check it out till you feel completely comfortable. kim in plymouth Ring wrote: > When I first started researching weight loss surgery about 4 months ago, I > had posted a question on the obesityhelp.com website regarding Dr. Forse. > > I had chosen to go to Dr. Forse because he comes highly recommended to me by > a friend, and so far, I have not heard anything bad about him. Guest guest
, It is very unfortunate to lose anyone during ANY surgery, however, I think since the window of opportunity was there, someone came forward...with the truth. Having any surgery puts a person at risk, but being obese is that much greater. I'd ask any questions you can, get the facts, before jumping to conclusions. Good luck sweetie! Dawn Reallity Check When I first started researching weight loss surgery about 4 months ago, I had posted a question on the obesityhelp.com website regarding Dr. Forse. I had chosen to go to Dr. Forse because he comes highly recommended to me by a friend, and so far, I have not heard anything bad about him. That is, until yesterday. I suppose that it was too much to think that he would have had a perfect track record, but I was hoping that he hadn't had any recent deaths. This is the email that I received. (BTW, I noticed that Janet Pare received the exact same answer to a question she had posted a while back about Dr. Forse. Her surgery has been a sucess to my understanding, and she is recovering nicely at home). Question written early March: Dr. Forse in Boston??? Anyone have any experiences with Dr. Forse in Boston, MA. A friend has recommended him very highly to me, but I am unable to find much information on him. I would appreciate any comments/suggestions anyone may have regarding Dr. Forse. Thanks. Response received yesterday: , my sister's surgeon was Dr. Forse, she DIED from complications from the surgery on 10/24/99. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to. - Needless to say, I am a little disturbed by this. I know that I shouldn't be, but I am. How should I deal with this. Any suggestions? I wrote her an email back, trying very hard to be sensitive since her sister hasn't been gone to long, and I think she might be bitter about the whole thing. In my email I asked her sister's weight and any other medical conditions she may have had. Thanks for listening, and any words to help ease my mind would be appreciated.
