Hi Lyssa,

I just checked cbs.com and it's on at 10pm tonite. There is a really good

article summarizing the show. They are going to talk about surgery, pills

and some guy who believes in the caveman diet. You can check out the website

www.cbs.com and then click on the 48 Hours tv show.

I can't wait to watch it tonite. Maybe this will help me tell my dh!

Hugs,

Priscilla,

I hopefully taped it, but I haven’t checked the VCR to be sure yet. If it

worked, I could lend it to you to have a copy made.

I haven’t watched the show yet, but I agree with you 100%. In fact, if I have to

sure I can even watch it without wanting to smash my television.

The bites can definitely be bigger once you feel comfortable about your new way

Right on, Priscilla. So many people say that there way is the best. I honestly

believe that we all have to find the way that works for us. Even with the same

surgery, everyone reacts to it and is affected by it differently. It’s taken me

this long to not fel guilty because I’m not as restricted as another person, or

don’t walk 10 miles every day. Part of this is having some faith in yourself.

This is something I continue to work on on a daily basis.

Ugh! Did that skinny b*tch who was downing the surgery irritate anyone

else as much as she bugged me? What was it she was saying about this

surgery puts us in a prison for the rest of our lives? HELLO!

Isn't 100+ extra pounds a worse prison??? Futile dieting is a prison!

Yo-yo weight is a prison! Being given a tool to learn how to control

your eating and lose weight permanently---that's freedom!!! My heart

was breaking for that poor 19 year old girl. What a struggle.

But looking at her a year later...did she look like she was still in prison

playing softball??? Oy vey...so many people just don't get it.

The other thing that agitated me was that ignorant jerk father towards

the end who said "You wanna be proud of your kid, but who can be proud

of a little fat kid" @--hole. Certainly I pray every day that my

children will never strugle with their weight as I have, but no matter

what I will always be proud of their accomplishments.

Of course, this is as always, just my 2 cents :)

I take bigger bites...I even took bigger bites when Dr. T gave me the clearance

for a cracker at one week. Maybe I was being undercautious... but

I think she may have been acting a little extreme for the camera.

Then again, maybe not...everyone copes differently.

By the end of the show the 19 y/o was about 11 months out and down to

350 (from what was it 550?) The mother was at 220 from almost 400

and the other woman was down to 170 from 220 after 11 weeks. I was

glad that they showed success stories. Notice, not one of the people

who had it done had a bad thing to say about it! I can't imagine

who that psychologist they saw was seeing for patients! I have never

met a single person who said the wish they hadn't had it done!

Just remember her job she said she deals with eating disorders so who does she see? Only those already with the MAJOR problems like binging, purging etc .. I don't think she ever sees the normal successful post op patients and therefore her opinion is totally bias.Yes she made me mad .. when I saw this show last fall i was fuming and boy was there a lot of discussion about it on OSSG.

The thing is too this is tv and they sensationalize it .. like that woman who had the mouse size nibble on a cracker and said oh I'm full. Now come on!!! I don't buy it. Even if you were she was 2 weeks post op. By now she is at least 8 months post op I'd like to see what she is eating now.

Anyway I felt it was distorted to say the least but think overall it will still give the green light to alot of people to look into it.

Just my 0.02 cts.

You've got it Priscilla you hit it right on the head.. did you notice how

everyone at the meeting was dressed to the nines .. all men in suits/ties,

the women in dresses? obviously this was not am improptu taping of a meeting

but rather a pre-planned event .. why else would they all be in picture

posing mode on one side of the room? for the tv! Why else talk like a bible

revival meeting? TV!! 15 minutes ok seconds of fame.

Dont' get me wrong I'm the biggest supporter of this surgery but hey can we

talk realistic? Maybe realistic isn't good for ratings.

Still even with all the things I DIDN " Tlike about the show I did think again

regardless it will help someone if even they look into the surgery.

I think being online talking to real people, asking tons of questions and

interviewing different docs for yourself is the best way to go ultimately.

Hugs it sounds like you've got a plan thats going to work!

Hi all, well I still want a copy of this tape(thanks alice for your offer)

but it was a repeat and I viewed it with new eyes. I was a large child and

the remarks were very hurtful to say the least. But the thing that bothered

me the most was the revival tent atmosphere that the post-ops had in their

" group meetings " Such hoopla I have not seen at any meeting that I've ever

attended. The operation to me is a life saver but much of it has to do with

each persons' approach to the weight loss and the new life style they chose

to remain fit. Most of us will probably not nibble on a cracker for an hour

although I expect my first cracker will be softened in chicken broth. The

support we all get from our groups is the staying power that sees us through

the good and bad times. I'm interested in the opinions and results of

people 10 years or more post=op. And I did hope that this 48 hours followed

the people further on their weight loss. I'm still thinking positive

thoughts and am trying to follow a sensible diet and exercise plan pre-op,

which I think will help the whole operation. Priscilla

well first of all I know at 2 weeks I wouldn't have been advised to be eating crackers lol .. it would have been liquids. HOWEVER eating a cracker she was eating it like it was TNT getting ready to explode in her mouth. Again I think she was over playing it for the tv.

Thanks Kim I need that today. Going through pms right now and I am

I know I know I know...not the best advice...but I just gave in enough

to satisfy my cravings---again...I'm a very new pre-op. I needed

chocolate in the worst way...I got one of those Nestle (I think) treasures...the

little chocolates with caramel inside...let it melt in my mouth and I was

satisfied. Pre-op I would have eaten 5 or 6 candybars over a 2 day

period. Again...maybe this isn't the best advice because I imagine

in a lot of people it could lead to some bad habits. There are ways

to fine more healthy alternatives as well---such as sucking on a pickle

for salt cravings Like I've said before though...I'll work

this surgery for all it's worth, but I will not deny myself a few pleasures,

and I will not live the rest of my life on a diet. If anything I'm

learning how to enjoy food much more.
