Guest guest
Personally, I would take anything put out by the group Public Citizen with a grain of salt. They have an agenda against drug manufacturers, and are known to exaggerate the facts in order to stir up controversy. Among the medications they would like to get rid of are Tequin, Lamasil, Ativan and Lotronex (for IBS). Some of these medications have and/or continue to make my life bearable. They call the allergy medication Claritan a " lifestyle " drug. (Implying that it's not necessary.) Check out their website sometime. Guest guest
(start: sarcastic mode) I don't know, Zig. Being able to breath, function normally, not have the desire to scratch your face off, stop sneezing long enough to talk, and not be a bitch because you can't think straight for the symptoms might just be what companies call " a lifestyle " . :-) (end: sarcastic mode) > Personally, I would take anything put out by the group > Public Citizen with a grain of salt. Guest guest
I'm moderating a list about drugs for dogs, the drug companies do not care what their meds do to us they are in it for money, plain, flat out. Then there are the PERKS the doctors get for rxing it. Lona > Dateline did a show a few months back on Neurontin. Guest guest
It is true that using those drugs in high doses can be very bad. However Elavil (for one) is recommended only in very small doses for vulvar pain. Not in the high doses used for anti-depression. I haven't researched the others and don't know what dosages are used for vulvodynia and PMS. No, it does not cure the problem nor does it help you get to the root of things but there are some things that have no root as yet in the medical world. Autoimmune diseases fall into that category. They are working hard on finding the cause and cure but until then, all that can be offered is medications that suppress the symptoms or relief them. Sometimes it is the best choice. For every doctor that jumps right into giving you the medication to " cover " up the problem, their are others trying to find the answers to the problems. We as patients need to seek out those doctors. For myself, I wanted to find the reason for my burning and then a cure based on the cause. 4 years later...I am thinking that at this point, I will accept a " band aid " med just to get relief while I wait for the cure to come along. My problem is that they can't find the med that relieves my symptoms. Lynn
Guest guest
Let's not forget that nerve pain is very difficult to treat. It isn't like a burst appendix, or a bad gallbladder - you can't just go in and remove or cut the nerves - they are necessary for everyday functioning. If I had all the inflamed nerves of my spinal and neck condition removed, I'd be in a wheelchair - unable to care for myself. So for all intents and purposes, for nerve pain drugs ARE the treatment - because - as a general rule - surgery is not. Guest guest
> PLEASE, if anyone else trying antidepressants starts to feel like this, contact your doctor immediately!!! It is NOT normal!!!!!!!!! > Which anti-depressant was it? I have tried them all....each one does something different to me. Wellbutrin was horrible! I had horrible nightmares and my shoulders were in spasm (tension) the whole time. Zoloft made me into a zombie. I would sit down and think of doing things but could not get up to do them. The rest we no better for me. Each of us reacts differently to meds. I can take valium and be out like a light but my husband just gets the giggles and is wired. Glad you discovered the meds were doing it so you could get off them! Lynn
Guest guest
You said it better than I could, Lynn. To be honest, at this point I would eat DIRT if I thought it would give me just an hour of relief from this condition. A cure would be lovely, but--after seeing literally dozens of doctors I've reluctantly come to the conclusion that they really don't know for sure what's going on with us. Treatment is basically a matter of trial and error. As I remember, in the Stepford Wives, they replaced the real women with robots. I don't know about that, but I wouldn't mind getting bionic replacements for some of my parts, if you know what I mean. Zig
