I ordered the sample packets from From Nature with Love and they didn't come with any 'structions... I used half a packet of Violet in a 4.5 lb batch and it turned a lovely lavender color... which was perfect considering it was Lavender soap... Then I used 2 whole packets, 1 of aqua and 1 chromium green for a 10 batch of cucumber soap... it was a little dark for my taste. So... are different colorants stronger than others? Guest guest
, Are you going to have the natural pigments in the co-op or the FD & C? I am hoping for the natural ones. I agree that the cost for the pigments can get expensive....isn't 7 Tbls enough to color 42 lbs of soap? Seems like you are getting more when you look at it that way... :-) TIA, ette
Guest guest
Hi ! I haven't tried the FD & C colorants either. I use the natural ones and I love them too! I agree with you on the Ultramarine pink and violet and the chromium oxide green. I haven't tried the red oxide yet. What shade did you get using it? Is it a clay red or more of a peach? Also have you tried the Titanium Oxide water and oil dispersible colorant? I have tried the water dispersible and kept getting crazing in the soap. I used the oil dispersible and it is great with no problem at all. I started adding borax to the lye solution and bringing up the temperture of the blend to 110 degrees that seemed to help. Any input on this? Sorry for the 20 questions! :-) TIA, ette

Are there any in particular we're looking for? I'm partial to the ultramarine pink and violet, red oxide and chromium oxide green. Guest guest
Shelle, I use The Pigment Ladies colorants and she recommends using 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of colorant per pound of soap to start with. She has instructions at her web site for using the pigments. Maybe that will help you. ette
