Guest guest
Okay im freakin out right about now.... I cant even believe that we almost had our sons foot casted like that! With such a risk as rocker bottom! I'm shocked that any doctor would take that risk. Oh my god Sammy! Did your old doctor inform you that it could happen?? The doctor we were seeing first, told us that it may happen ,but he said it as if it wasnt that big a deal. We liked our first doctor allot, and dont get me wrong ...he got Zacks foot really straight. The ONLY reason we switched doctors was because I got the flavor he wasnt up to date. Im so sorry n has to go thru this. Its just not fair. Im just sick to death of the thought of other parents not knowing what could happen if they take that route. It sounds really appealing, compared to having your babys heel cut on. Guest guest
Just jumping in a little. Our first ped ortho warned us about rocker bottom also but she was very cautious not to take 's feet too far too fast and knew not to correct certain parts of the clubfoot before others. That was why she could'nt take 's feet past a certain point (which was both feet pointing straight down like a ballerina) and then told us surgery was inevitable. I thank god that even though we did not stay with our origional doctor and switched to the Ponseti Method, that we had been referred to such a good pediatric orthopedic surgeon who never tried to do something that she felt would have made 's feet possibly worse. She was very frank with me on the phone one day and told me that the difference between her and Dr. Ponseti is that Dr. Ponseti does not believe in the clubfoot surgery and she does. That was very honest and I appreciated that, I don't think it makes her a bad doctor, just not the right doctor for us. But I hear stories like this one and I simply can not comprehend what is going thru some of these doctors heads and why they continue with the coarse of treatments that they do. I agree, it seems as though we parents have had to " study " clubfoot in order to figure out the right path of treatment for our little ones. I just wish the non operative methods were used as the main source of treatment and then surgery used if all else fails. A lot of parents could be spared so much grief and confusion that way even if they knew next to nothing about clubfoot. (Which was me in the beginning!) Just a thought!
