It can be acute or chronic depending on cause. If you find a cure, then you no longer have vulvodynia. Using the definition above, Robin's yeast infection caused her vulvodynia. >> Vulvodynia is diagnosed when they have no idea why there is pain. They're just stabbing around in the dark looking for a treatment to relieve the symptoms. Once Robin's symptoms were identified as an yeast infection, she no longer had vulvodynia - she had an yeast infection. She was cured of an yeast infection, not vulvodynia. <<However, many women have been cured both of Vulvodynia and Vestibulitis. This meaning, their symptoms went away and have not returned. >> No one has been cured of vulvodynia/vestibulitis (vv/vvs). There is no cure. There are remissions that for some women may be permanent. If there were cures, we wouldn't be reading vv/vvs lists. There are treatments to relieve symptoms. That's it. If you want to read more about cure v. remission - search the vulvodynia list's archives. Debbie Tiger " And Staples Girls are so extraaaaaavagant...I just don't have that much driiiiivvvvvvel... Guest guest
Actually, I'm going to have to agree with the original poster on this one. I've talked to women off list who've done better but don't post, and I'm about to become one of those women who's gotten better/healed and is leaving the list. I opted to just not read much or ever post after I felt like I was attacked. And now I've come to realize that, with the anger / tension / ill will / unhappiness / frustration / misunderstandings that can pop up, the yahoo groups I've been a part of are costing me more than they are giving me. The negative energy I get from this sort of thing - particularly when it's been directed at me (infrequent though it is) takes more out of me than the improvement suggestions on the site give me or even being able to help other people with what has healed me gives me. Perhaps I just need better writing skills, or thicker skin, but I have neither. So it's clearly no longer a good choice for me to participate in the yahoo groups that I had been a part of. I'm sorry that this means there's just one more woman who's been healed (and by that, I mean no more pain while sitting, and pain free sex) who is leaving, but it's no longer in my best interest to stay a part of these groups. Perhaps I'll come back in a few months, I don't know. But I wanted to explain why I was leaving. Good luck to everyone in finding whatever makes them feel better! > > In a message dated 12/17/03 4:05:34 AM, VulvarDisorders > writes: > > << The > > problem is that when women get better/healed, they leave the list and > > we never hear from them again. >> > > The Dr. Goldstein Theory. > > <<I was on another list where several women > > used diflucan and got total relief. >> > > What list? > > Debbie > Tiger

All you've done is find a treatment to abate your symptoms. If you quit the treatment, the symptoms return. That's not healing and it's not a cure. That is managing a disease or condition. If one reads the archives, women who have participated by posting, usually post about any successful treatment they've discovered. They don't find " magical cures " and then suddenly develop postitis, unsubscribe and never mention what helped them. There are women who participate, find a treatment that works for them and unsubscribe. But before they do that, they posted what worked for them and leave the information in the archive, which you have done. You don't know for a fact that if she stops treatment, her symptoms will return do you? It is these types of responses that have made me decide that this list is no longer the support list I first came to. I have never felt so depressed than I have in the past week from reading the constant no cure, no cure, no cure mentality here. Everyone has a different idea of what CURE means to them, why can't they be allowed to feel cured if they want to? Why can't we feel healed if we want to? It may not be the same cure or heal that you define but it is OURS and we should be able to have it to at least have some shred of hope left. Some people just don't want others to have some hope. Hope is what makes people move forward. Hope is what brings people together. Let us have some hope!!! You are not a doctor that I know of and in reading the archives, your posts are matter of fact and come across that you are in the medical profession. At least to me they do. This group I thought was for sharing and support but you have people challenging their doctors and telling people they are wrong or that their doctor is wrong. I just don't think you are qualifed to do that. You may not realize it but your posts can be hurtful and negative. Anyway--for those that believe in healing, I am without vulvar burning 98% of the time now and that is without any treatment. Lynn
