That's interesting that it helps you, Debbi.

My EP had told me that nitro would not help the pain caused by afib.

Will have to talk to EP or internist.

Thanks,

Cheryl

Cheryl,

My doc told me the same thing until I was in the Cardio unit last

time the nurse told me when I was having pain to try it. I found out

it helped..........I told doc on follow up and she gave me an RX, and

it really seems to help. I take one, if I'm still having pain,

another in 5 minutes..........can take up to 3 5 minutes apart.

Usually second dose knocks it out.

Thanks for your response Cheryl.

Debbi: Now I'm worried about you!! Did your doctor prescribe

nitroglycerine for you for atrial fib? Have you had other tests

done? After reading so much on this board, I can never remember

peoples histories. Have you been worked up for coronary artery

disease, and told that what you have is " Lone Atrial Fibrillation " ?

Have you ever had a heart attack (MI)? Interesting that someone else

agreed that nitro relieved their chest pain which they thought was

caused by Afib.? Zur??? PalofHim?

I've heard of others with non cardiac chest pain

who claimed relief from Ntg. Oh well, whatever works. I would love

to know thought, if you ever get any insight on that.

Pam, my doctor told me she didn't think the nitro would work for A-

Fib, a nurse on the cardiac floor suggested I try it while on monitor

in hospital. I think my doctor (she's an internist who called in a

cardio while I was admitted) was just as confounded that it worked as

I was..........I'm just thankful because it reduces the urge to run

to ER everytime I have chest pains.

My internist had prescribed nitro for spasming esophagus for me. I

guess it is the dialation of the blood vessels that allows more blood

to areas of the body. I, too, thought it should work if heart is not

pumping enough in afib, then dialating blood vessels to the rest of

the body ought to allow a little more blood flow.

Just my theory of how it would work...

Anyone know if it works on migraines? I think they are caused by spasms in

veins so could be relieved by NG?

-Edgar: Please don't try it, as (I think) most migraines are caused

by dilated cerebral arteries (not constricted). You could just be

making things worse.

Edgar some people report headaches after taking nitro. I don't think

I would use it for a migraine. I'm lucky it makes me a little " high "

for about 10 seconds, but no other side effects.
