Guest guest
Thanks to all for the new recipes lately--there are some very generous and helpful people on this list! Handmade soap is so unique, even when two people use the same recipe it can turn out very different in the finished product. Is it safe to say that the market for this is relatively non-competitive? How do you rate one soap against another? It's like comparing apples to oranges. I wish more people would recognize this fact. There are so many variables, no one will ever be able to reproduce your work exactly as you do it. On another list, a member recalled a craft show where she was met with hostility and indifference while trying to start a friendly chat with a fellow soaper. I guess my philosophy is that one can never have too many friends. All you can do is wish them well and move on. Don't mean to be so long winded, but I do want to tip people off about bad lye: I tried to make laundry soap using Peg Frye's recipe; ended up pouring two cans of Red Devil in the melted lard and IT STILL WOULDN'T TRACE. If I didn't have your experience to fall back on, I would have quit soaping right there.
