Federal officials said that each year, billions of dollars designated as aid for that age group goes unspent. " Millions of older people are missing out on billions of dollars in federal and state benefits that can help them remain healthy, independent and financially secure, " said Dr. Firman, with the National Council On Aging. So, the National Council On Aging launched a Web site, www.benefitscheckup.org, to help Americans find the benefits that they are entitled to. " Anyone, anywhere and anytime, can now go on the Internet and learn all about the federal and state benefits for which they are entitled, where to go and how to apply, " said Firman. The Web site offers one-stop shopping to find valuable information that might otherwise take weeks or months to obtain. The user enters the state, a birth date, and a few other items of information to receive a list of programs available, along with how to access them. " Benefitscheckup.org is going to be an extremely important tool to help those who have been left behind. Those who might be eligible for help but are not currently getting it and for those in the aging community, who are trying to get the assistance to people who need it, " said Rother, Director of AARP Legislation and Public Policy. The Web site has a database of more than 1,000 programs and is completely confidential. More Information: a.. www.benefitscheckup.org Have a consumer complaint?
