Hi,

Our pulm nurse just called with M's chest CT results. First she said, great

news, they're normal. But then she added that Meagan showed " minimal

bronchial wall thickening, consistent with CF or asthma. " So I guess she

meant " normal for a child with CF/asthma, " or normal in that the CT didn't

show anything we'd need to do anything about or be concerned about. I don't

feel like it's too likely that M's asthma caused the minimal bronchial wall

thickening since Ken and I were just discussing last night how great M's

asthma's been doing this past year since we started treating the CF w. CPT

and antibiotics. She hasn't had a significant asthma flare up since she had

the flu in January, and her peak flows are almost always in the green zone.

I'm sort of wondering if it's going to be like it was with her sinus CT's,

where she had one and it showed " mild mucosal thickening, " and 3 months

later she had another one and it was awful. I don't mean that it would

progress so fast in the lungs, but that it makes me sort of nervous to think

that this is the begining of things, even though it's not bad now.... Does

that make sense?

Does anyone know what " bronchial wall thickening " is all about? Is it like

mucosal thickening in the sinuses, or something different? At least it's

minimal, but I still would have been happier with " absolutely 100% normal. "

I guess this is why there've been articles about chest CT's being most

helpful to follow subtle changes in the lungs of people with atypical CF

genotypes.

bye,

, mom of Meagan 5 (cf, asthma) and Kailin 7 (asthma)
