Alan Ross wrote: Hey all, I, too, have gone into the "Friends of Bill" chat room on yahoo. My friend and I will go in there together sometimes. That makes it much more interesting. My two favorite schemes are: 1. One of us pretends they are a newcomer, just repeating slogans and bonding with the others for a few minutes. Then the other comes in and tries convincing the other to drink. The "newcomer" puts up a strong fight at first, and then eventually gives in. So fun to watch them sqirm. 2. Me and my friend both barrage people with "You are BRAINWASHED", "You are in a cult", "Get out NOW", "You are very much in danger", and the like. With this one, it is very important that as soon as it is obvious that we are there to stir up trouble, I make sure to type "ATTENTION ALL: PUTTING ME ON IGNORE WILL DEFINITELY PROVE THAT YOU ARE BRAINWASHED AND TRYING TO SHUT OUT REALITY". This usually disuades most people from using ignore (they are so spiritually strong, after all, that they don't need to). But then really just dig in. Attack everything that everyone says. Its definitely cool doing it with someone else. Anywayz, That's my story and I'm stickin to it........ Guest guest
Great word is, and to answer your question--yes, it does. In fact, there is nothing borderline about this behavior, it's juvenile to the bone. There is enough real stuff going on in the way of messed up thinking (I myself have been known to respond to this) in those AA chat rooms, they don't need outside instigation to create more. llawrence@... In fact it was that tactic of theirs that led to the forming of this email list. I think the greatest attraction of the 12 step free perspective is that it potentially gives people back the use of their own minds, and allows them to think things through and come to their own decisions, without being browbeaten, controlled, shamed, abused, or flooded with garbage. Thus arguing from a rational perspective makes sense. This is what attracted me to the post-12-step world- the people who were criticising the 12 step philosophy actually made excellent sense, in contrast to the arguments of the steopers, who generally made no sense at all and who resorted to personal attacks on people every time they posted something. The people who argued rationally were a very good example of mental health and self-determination and that was a good motivation for me to explore further and drop my last vestigial reliance on the 12 step program. Guest guest
Puerile? Yeah. What's so bad about puerility? I guess we'll have to start a separate list for myself, Alan and other males who can't help ourselves. Call it the Puerile 12-Step-Free Zone or something like that. alexis wrote: original article:/group/12-step-free/?start=12889 > Doesn't this border on the puerile?????????????? > > Alan Ross wrote: > > > Hey all, > > > > I, too, have gone into the " Friends of Bill " chat room on yahoo.
