Guest guest
Celia, I am still thinking that this would be much more acceptable for someone who has a car and not a van with a lift. I haven't given up on them and will be enquiring more myself. Purchasing a vehicle that I can drive with accessibility is prohibitive at this time. I simply do not have the money or the means to do it but long for my independance. Right now, if I want to go anywhere with my mobility equipment, I have to ask someone to take me. This is something I don't want to do. I just feel as if it's too much of an imposition. I don't drive much because of my equilibrium problem, but some days are better than others and when I do, I'd like to be able to pick from more than just Walmart and the grocery store. I'm glad you liked the site and hope you find that it's something you can use for your own needs. Guest guest
Keep searching Alice and Celia, keep up that search and you will both find something that works for you. Lost of independence is the pits. Guest guest
Celia Please have someone who fits wheelchairs work with you. I am having the reaching problem myself. I can reach, but can't do it and lean back on my seat, so I am thinking a powerchair instead of a scooter. There is a unit that can be put on a folding manual chair that turns it into a powerchair. It would do for travel I think. I'll try to remember what it is called. My mind is a blank at the present time. laurie " Reply-To: Date: Sun, 29 Dec 2002 19:30:59 -0000 To: Subject: Mitoldies- I found these interesting and convenient Dear Alice, Thanks for this informative site. Obviously , going by Laurie's and others comments there is no substitute for going to a show room to see and use these. I am in the market for a more adaptable scooter at the present(mine is too big and heavy, hard to transport and I have to reach my arms out to far to steer) Thanks again, Celia Medical advice, information, opinions, data and statements contained herein are not necessarily those of the list moderators. Guest guest
Laurie, I completely forgot about that gadget but can't locate it anywhere. That would be a quick solution to the immediate problem. Hopefully, I can find the link to that device. We all should go thru a reputable wheelchair dealer if we have the insurance coverage to pick up the cost. They measure you and fit you to the chair which is best for your individual needs. Reading that you are preparing yourself for a power chair says a lot Laurie. I know you have felt reluctant to make this move. I bet you will find one you really like. I now actually prefer the power chair to the scooter except for the fact that I don't have a basket on it which makes it difficult for shopping. It is much more comfortable and gets in and out of spots much easier. My problem is definitely transportation and has nothing to do with the equipment. Guest guest
Alice I still haven't been able to find it either. The only person I know that uses one is in Florida for the winter. I will keep looking. It seems like it starts with an " S " , but don't bank on it. laurie " Reply-To: Date: Sun, 29 Dec 2002 21:48:57 -0000 To: Subject: Re: Mitoldies- I found these interesting and convenient Laurie, I completely forgot about that gadget but can't locate it anywhere. Guest guest
Alice I can't do anything until next summer when my insurance will consider it. I also have to get a ramp installed before then. For those considering a ramp for your home, there are two companies that I have found (of course, I can't put my hands on the literature at the moment) that have metal units that can be assembled and many insurance companies pay for them as durable medical goods, because they are not permanent and can be moved. If anyone is interested, I will look the info up. It is here on my desk somewhere. laurie " Reply-To: Date: Sun, 29 Dec 2002 21:48:57 -0000 To: Subject: Re: Mitoldies- I found these interesting and convenient Laurie, I completely forgot about that gadget but can't locate it anywhere.
