Guest guest
Hello, I dont want to sound too stupid but I ordered armour from an online company without a prescription as I have in the past. I have a fairly good idea as to how to take the armour, starting with 15 mgs, then adding 15 more every week until I reach an optimal level. For any of you who also treat yourselves without a doc, whats the best way to take your medication (timing, dosages, procedure)? I also have the option of ordering Cytomel/Levoxyl/Synthroid. Since I havent found a single doc who has been able to help me, Im still experiencing a lot of the symptoms of hypOthyroidism and my TSH is at 2.8-3. This is my only option. For those of you who do not agree with my decision to self medicate, please leave out your comments. I would only like to hear from those who can offer me advice. Another thing, how many times a day do you guys take your thyroid meds? Thanks yall

Guest guest
The key is to be conisistent. If you take it without food do it all the time. If you take it with food do it all the time. Guest guest
Hi there bigcolli. Actually, most of us started on a bit more than 15 mg, but it's OK to start on that if you understand to raise a bit quickly at first. By the 3rd week, you will only be on 45 mg. and your hypo may return with a vengeance. Just be aware that you will need to increase again soon. It is usually recommended that you dose at least twice a day because of the short action of the T3, which peaks within 2 hours. One gal here mentioned awhile back that she was doing it all in the morning and felt successful with that. (I take 2 grains in the morning and one grain in the early to mid afternoon.) Sometimes someone will come on here and complain of palps and problems, and when they learn to divide their dose, those problems cease. Sublingual is the next ideal way to take it. You place the tabs between your cheek and inner gums, or where the least saliva is. It is captured by the millions of tiny capillaries that line the mouth, facilitating a direct introduction to your blood. You will utilize nearly 100% of the thyroid that way, as compared to swallowing. You also save more stress on the liver by doing it sublingually! If you do swallow, you have to make sure you have consumed no products with iron, calcium, or estrogen, which contribute to binding some of the thyroid hormones. Your goal in dosing is to find the amount that causes your symptoms to cease. I would slow down by 2 grains (i.e. not increasing every week), giving the T4 time to build in my body to see the results. Otherwise, you can suddenly find yourself overdosed at some amount because you didn't give the T4 time.
