Guest guest
Hi Mei, Boy, it sure would be wonderful if you could get that doctor of yours to prescribe Armour. I think you'd really benefit from it. Though, I know plenty of people can't get Armour, so I know the Nutri-Meds are a good alternative. You are taking way too low of a dose, though. Your TSH is quite high. Gradual increases is the way to go. I'm not sure what the equivalency of Nutri-Meds is to Armour, but I really don't think it would do you any harm to take more. If you were on Armour, I'd start you on 1 grain and increase your dose by 1/4 or 1/2 grain every three weeks. Like I've stated before, Dr. Derry indicates that people with hypothyroidism don't see improvements in their symtpoms until they are on AT LEAST 3 grains of Armour. I'm at 3 1/4 grains right now and I'm feel great! The best tests to have done are the Free T3 and Free T4. The TSH is good to use in diagnosing, but after that its pretty useless. Though, I will tell you most people feel their best when their TSH is below 1. Mine is .001 and I'm not feeling the least bit hyper! Don't bother with the T3 and T3 uptakes either. These just show what has already been used up by your body. The Free T3 and Free T4 show what is free and available for your body to use. When you have the Frees tested, you want the numbers at the tops of their ranges. Your body needs T3 in order to perform certain functions at the cellular level. If you don't have enough, that is when you have all those nasty hypothyroid symptoms, e.g., feeling tired, brain fog, weight gain, hair loss, etc. Hopefully I didn't overwhelm you! Zina > Hi, see, > > Thanks for your reply. It is exciting to know that Armour has worked for you. > > My newest TSH is about 5.5, overweight, tired, and low blood pressure. My T4 is in normal range, but I do have antibodies for Hashimoto. > > I wonder how you worked up to 3 Grains of Armour? Have you checked TSH after? > > I need to convince my doctor to give me Armour. I did take Synthroid and it did not do anything for me except may be made me hyper a bit. I bought Nutri-med thyroid tablets on line and I heard it is similar to Armour but need to take more to be effective. I am taking one tablet a day( may be 1/4 grain). > > Thanks again. > > mei

Guest guest
Hi, mei. You got some very good info from Zina so I won't repeat. But I do agree that you need more Nutri-Meds. A 1/4gr equivalent dose is not much especially with your TSH. Insist on freeT3 and freeT4 checks for a good lab reading of your levels. Also, your symptoms (how you FEEL) are the best indicator of proper dosing. You will need to *patiently* work with this until you reach your optimal dose. And, please, go for the ARMOUR. ~see
