Guest guest
we have the (Costco) kirkland daily multi vits. & minerals here - hubby takes them. I tried, but they seem to bother my stomach. looking at our bottle - (of 500)- figure we've had it about a year at this point - it has 150 mcg of iodine in it. Not listed as kelp. I figured the Costco and Sam's club brands would be similar. also has 18 mg of iron, folate - (folic Acid) 400 mcg a bunch of other things. It has zinc - 22.5 mg - I bet that is what upsets my stomach. I don't tolerate zinc very well. It even has silicon in it - 2 mg!! Says, compare to Centrum on the label. How much kelp- iodine is in your bottle? Cris Subject: Re: I found KELP in my multi > I think I might. i did check my vitamins - no kelp. I just get mine at Sam's CLub (the Memeber mark brand). It's actually very good with lots of extra herbal stuff, including the kelp, however. Is your brand expensive? Guest guest
I read somewhere - just since joining this group - that the US has a problem with lack of iodine, even with the iodized salt - do you know where I might have read that? It would have been from a reference somewhere that I got from a post or the files section. It's interesting, for sure! I wonder if all of these websites can be trusted - makes you wonder!!! I'm not a 'salt' eater, normally - but a lot of people are. I'd be curious to know how I stood with iodine! LOL I'm curious to know how I stand with a lot of things! and am not being very patient, waiting until my tests on june 30th! and then to have to wait a week for the results!! Cris Re: I found KELP in my multi From a Canadian thyroid website: Iodine deficiency is the most common cause of goitre in the world but NOT in this country. We have had iodized salt for two generations, and there are many other sources of iodine now in our diets so that, if anything, we are receiving more iodine than in most places in the world. There is no point whatsoever in adding more iodine to the diet and that includes kelp, a form of seaweed high in iodine often sold in health food stores. The problem is that too much iodine is just as dangerous as too little iodine. Excess iodine can also cause goitres and can either cause a low thyroid state, (hypothyroidism) or excess output of thyroid (hyperthyroidism). It also aggravates Hashimoto's thyroiditis. In Canada it is a mistake to ingest kelp. Janie
Guest guest
These costco vits have too many things in them to list also - they have more iodine than your kelp - but I wonder how kelp converts to iodine. mcg's aren't that big - compared to mgs. I wonder if one of those pills per week would be good. Is iodine stored in our bodies? Maybe I'll try to look it up - but right now, my computer has everything frozen but my e-mail program- and some of that mail is frozen too - whatever is in my system tray is frozen - sheese!! Much more than a regular vitamin, so I thought it was great for the price. I just never noticed the kelp until last night.
Guest guest
This is why I've got 3 or 4 different vitamin supps, because I love the Natrol, yet can't use the Women's formula because some of the other crap in it, although it's got everything else in it that a lot of us probably need. You can think something is the perfect supp, but when you start reading the label, and there's one thing in there that would be destructive to you, then ya can't take it! I've looked at ALL the Natrol supps, and I finally settled on the old Hair Skin and Nails formula, then added my own folic acid supp to that separately, then the liquid B12 with a few of the other Bs thrown into it. Eventually I'll order something off of the internet, which is probably the only I'll find what I've been looking for. Every time I find something that's got it ALL in there, I find something in the fillers and other ingredients that's detrimental to our health! Guest guest
It's great----for those who don't have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Re: I found KELP in my multi I have the Prescription for Nutrional Healing book and it has kelp as a recommended supplement. How do you know what to believe???? Guest guest
I think that the confusion probably comes in where what is actually happening during an attack of Hashi's Thyroiditis. The gland doesn't just simply have goiter (actually, nothing simple about that either, of course), but a different problem. It infiltrates with the lymphocytes and stays constantly irritated and inflamed, and the iodine doesn't help the situation. There has even been some sources that say that, in this case, there may actually have evolved a sensitivity to or an allergy to one's own iodine. I'm still looking at that, but I'm not really that sure about it. From everything I've gathered, most Hashi's patients have a lot of other allergies to different things from OUTside the body, so it would go to reason that we might develop sensitivities to substances inside our bodies. What's bothering me about this, though, is the fact that all thyroid hormone is actually made of molecules of iodine-----1, 2, 3, and 4, and some say there are even more! But, if we didn't have our thyroid hormone, we'd all be dead!! Re: I found KELP in my multi In Canada it is a mistake to ingest kelp. > Thanks Janie! Good-bye multi vitamins lol! I wonder if Dr. Derry is way off on his iodine theories. I think topical use is still beneficial, but taking it orally is proving to be a bad thing for Hashi's patients, yet he talks about it all the time (even for Hashi's patients) - HUM!
