Guest guest
I remember a long time ago having those half moons on the nails, but I don't anymore. I never noticed till I saw this post. Very interesting. SandyE~Houston Another possible poll? Hi Janie: I asked this question in another thyroid group and was surprised at the responses. Guest guest
Hi, Debbie, Seems like I do remember hearing this somewhere before. Yep, I have good ones on my thumbs and that's just about it. Glad you mentioned this. I've suspected my son having a thyroid problem. He had more than I do but he's missing some. Maybe he'll get the doctor to check. Guest guest
Hi Debby, Giggle giggle, this is funny, my only troubled right 'thumb-nail', has an enlarged white moon! It's bow covers nearly half of the nail. I only noticed today since you mentioned it. My other 9 finger-nails are ok and have normal white moons. Although, when I study them a little more, the moons are not that white as they used to be. They have almost the same colour as the rest of the nail. Interesting. And, as describes vertical ridges, mine are horizontal, if I keep my thumb up! (grin). Guest guest
Another interesting thing to poll would be a short pinky finger. (The smallest finger is shorter than the first knuckle of the adjacent finger.) My son has this, and I have it on one hand. I have moons in my thumbs only, but I do remember having them on all fingers when I was younger. I can remember polishing my fingernails, and leaving the half moons plain. So I KNOW they were there, and they are gone now. I have some other interesting characteristics listed as, premature gray hair, missing the outer third of the eyebrow, splayed fingertips. The voltage on the electrocardiogram will be low. nne I remember a long time ago having those half moons on the nails, but I don't anymore. I never noticed till I saw this post. Very interesting. Guest guest
my nails are a real mess. Sort of moons on my thumbs. none on the other ones. lumpy - especially the thumbs. short, thin, break - splotchy underneath. right now there are no holes in them - and they are pretty much grown out to the end of my fingers. I have believed this is thyroid for ages. CRis Another possible poll? Hi Janie: I asked this question in another thyroid group and was surprised at the responses. Guest guest
First gray hair when I was 16 - and of course I just gained more and more of them. I just turned 40 and the front is gray and the back is black. I have decided today to have those grays covered. When I was younger I didn't mind them, but now that I feel like I'm old, I'm ready to look my age not my mother's age. Jen -- Re: Another possible poll? Guest guest
nne, This statement just got me wondering when I heard low voltage and electro because I have a lot of static electricity in my body. I know this doesn't have anything to do with an electrocardiogram but I just wondered if hypo people maybe have a difference in their body's electricty. No one else has static electricity and I always do. It, of course, is worse in winter when the furnace is running and drying out the air but even then I am always getting shocks when no one else does and my hair stands on end when no one else's does. It drives me crazy. I've been curious at to why this happens to just me. This is probably completely not relative. Shelli RE: Another possible poll? Guest guest
Hi Shelli, I think it may be relative. I get shocks from a lot of things - my car, garage door, stairwell railings etc. I have also heard a lot of people on other thyroid groups say the same thing. Guest guest
I wrote a note to my son's doctor to check his thyroid. He doesn't have an apt. at this point - but he has a sinus infection, and will no doubt need to go. My son (22) found the note, and asked me what it was about. He just shook his head at me!! my son is ADD - and is very much not with it - plus, he has some other 'symptoms' that make me think he could be hypo - so - hopefully, I can talk him into it. I can't force him to do it at 22 - nor, can I force his doctor into checking. I can, change his doctor though, to mine. but I don't know if she'd think a 22 year old would need to be checked for thyroid problems. When I see him the next time - tomorrow, actually - he's off (works from 3pm- 1 AM ) - I'm going to look to see if he has moons.... Cris Re: Another possible poll? Guest guest
most of mine are vertical - very fine ones. MY bad ones are vertical - like lumps - and I have dimples too. this is really facinating - we should all take pictues and put them in the files section!! LOLmy thumbs actually sort of have huge moons a dark ring around the outer edge with paler color inside. no white. All of mine have a darker red ring where the moon would end, with paler on both sides. and darker tips. I'm waiting for my liver enzyme test results - I understand the outer red rings can be a problem with the liver due to meds - hoping that isn't the case. Cris - - Re: Another possible poll? Guest guest
Why do some have vertical ridges and others horizontal? Or am I exceptional? (ofcourse I am). Guest guest
Hi All, when I saw Dr. Shoemaker in the states, he asked me if I got shocks off of things.. he said its connected to our low adreno cortico steroid hormones so we are always a bit dehydrated... weeing lots... often a sign of diabetes insipidus or at least partial diabetes insipidus (a neat get out of treatment for the NHS)... an osmolality test proved him to be right. I now take a spray of desmopressin at night and at least it means I don't have to get up 6 times to go to the toilet. he said that the tissue salts form on the skin and that creates the conductivity on the skin so we get shocks off of things.. this is also common in chronic lyme disease. Guest guest
Amazing! I have Hashimotos. I have been hyper 3 times that I know of (from lab results) and then hypo. I of course tested positive for antibodies. My pinkies are shorter too! I never noticed till this discussion but I only have moons on my first three finger nails, gone on the ring finger and pinkie. They get smaller as the go from thumb to middle finger. I know they use to be there. I also have vertical ridges in my thumb nails. As far as gray hair I found my first " white hair " at age 16. I am now 44 and about 60 – 75 % white. (I keep it colored) I had big babies too! I don't know if I was hypo or hyper during pregnancies. I do know I would get real flushed, heart would race and blood pressure would shoot up for about 30 minutes at a time, then I would go back to normal. Second pregnancy was horrible. At 3 months my optometrist told me my corneas were sloughing off excess dead cells. He told me to have my thyroid checked. My doc said it would not be correct since I was pregnant but checked it anyway. I do not know what he check, probably just TSH and said it was fine. I had horrible heart palpitations around 120. Once I went to the doc because I was feeling so bad and the nurse could not even get a pulse count on me because it was jumping around so much it would co from 80 – 120 in about 90 seconds. I had preterm labor and delivered 4 weeks early 1st pregnancy girl 4 days late 8 lbs 15 oz. (shall we say 9 lbs) 22 " long 2nd pregnancy girl 4 weeks early 7lb 4 oz 19' long I am 5'4 " and my normal weight (be for Hashi " s) 120 lbs. My oldest daughter has tested positive for antibodies her pinkies are short too. My youngest pinkies are shot and she has ADD.
