Guest guest
Hi everybody, Can anybody please advise me regarding fine-tuning my meds ..... First introduce myself a little bit.... I live in The Netherlands. I have hypo-Graves after RAI, and was in hypohel for 7 years on synthetic t4. (I almost died, I had ferritine < 2 !!!). Now, I use 3¼ grain Armour for 4 months and I'm slowly recovering from many ailments. My TSH was 0.006 after two months on this dose. I feel so much better that I NEVER EVER want to go back on synthroid. My nails where OK when I started on Armour. But last month my right 'thumbnail' got very thin and it has deep ridges. I have had this before on synthroid but can't remember if I was hyper or hypo at those times it occuered. But it is usally an out of balance sign. With Armour, everything feels so different, thats why I'm confused. At the moment I feel easily edgy, hypoglycemic, which is for me a hypersign. I also have a sore painful tong and other B12 problems, despite monthly B12 injections. When I lower my dose, even in taking the ¼ grain every other day, I get PMS, cramps and depression. I don't think I can be more on the edge of fine-tuning. Who recognizes these specific ailments? Could it be an option for me to add back a little bit synthetic t4 0.025 mg- and reduce slightly on Armour? I'm afraid to do this, since I have been so sick on synthetic. (I used both t4- levothyroxine and t3-cynomel). I got heartpalpations from it. I don't want these back! But any advise more than welcome! Kim. Yes, if you are taking it all in one lump, you could be feeling the T3 big time. I am so glad you pointed out the hypoglycemia thing Kim. I got this at 1 1/2 grains and edgy too. Boy, I missed the signs I guess. I have felt like that every once in a while in the past, so didn't really think anything of it - DUH! I probably felt like that when the Hashi's was on the mild hyper swing. Then stupid me, I upped my dose even more to 1 3/4 and then 2 grains, which threw me into a tizzy and not allowing my body time to adjust to the new dose. Anyway, I backed down to 1 1/4 grain and added some T4 to my mix in hopes of stabalizing and getting the T3 down. It worked, and I don't know if I am going to stay on the T4 forever, but for right now I am using it (just 25 mcg added to the 1 1/4 grain). Guest guest
Hi there Kim!! First, have you ever fixed that low Ferritin? A low Ferritin can cause so many additional problems, including palps, achiness, hair loss, depression, and other issues. You mentioned two of those, and it could be your problem....... That jitteriness you mention---can you get labs done for your free T3 and free T4 and see where you are?? Also, when you say lowering your dose you get the PMS and depression, do you mean just lowering it to 3 grains?? And I am so glad others have mentioned multi-dosing. Hopefully you are not taking all of it in the morning, but breaking it up to at least twice a day?? I currently take 2 grains in the morning, and one grain in the early to mid afternoon. And finally---you didn't mention your age. Are you possibly peri- meno?? Is it possible you might have a bit of estrogen dominance-- which is when the estrogen is too high as compared to your progesterone levels?? It can also cause depression, hypoglycemic signs, and other issues. Janie in Colorado USA ) > First introduce myself a little bit.... I live in The Netherlands. Guest guest
It sounds more to me like more hypo instead of hyper. The sore tongue, the ongoing B12 problem, which should only take a few weeks to resolve, if you are NOT still hypo. I tested for B12, but it wasn't the B12, it was the folic acid. However, it is now corrected, as of me looking at my red blood counts yesterday, after faithfully taking the folic acid AND B12 and other B's, etc....interpreted, meaning.....it scared the heck out of me, so much so, that I got to work on that one fast! Fine-tuning Armour At the moment I feel easily edgy, hypoglycemic, which is for me a hypersign. I also have a sore painful tong and other B12 problems, despite monthly B12 injections.
