Guest guest
, What awesome news! How wonderful you were able to sleep, go without itching and get the eval started - all in one day! It's been my experience that praying gets better results than anything else! Take care and keep us updated. (MO)
Guest guest
Well my day at Henry Ford is over with. Let me first say THANK YOU to all who prayed for me. Last night was horrible for itching, but when I got up this morning...not wanting to face the long trip to Detroit let alone the doctor visit....I was amazed to find that I fell asleep within 5 minutes of being in the back seat of the car and slept the whole trip down there without ITCHING!!! I was like a zombie though the rest of the day. I arrived and the nurse aide took my temp, BP and weight (Yuck!) within 3 minutes of registering. The nurse called me back to the room 3 minutes early...still a good sign. When we entered the room the exam table invited me to lay down and sleep. I took Mike's coat for a pillow and my lightweight jacket for a cover up and fell asleep. When the doctor came into the room I had to be awakened. He immediately proceeded to put up his hand and wanted to speak without us saying anything. Little SAGA here: I quit going there about 2 years ago because it was horrible to get through the phone lines to schedule appts, get rx refills or ask basic questions and get information back. So I sent a seething letter expressing my dissatisfaction in their process and offered them some solutions...which one was to get more phone assistance so 'live' humans were talking to patients and not recordings that probably went into NEVERLAND. When I left, I sought out a doctor who had trained under Dr. Moonka and had set up HEP practice here in Midland. She couldn't believe that I couldn't get through, so she called for me and got the royal run-around. So, she sent a seething letter indicating the unacceptability of the situations as well. So....Dr. Moonka wanted to tell me first and upfront that he had addressed the situation and had hired 2 full-time phone clerks to answer phones and direct calls where they needed to go and they instituted a turn-around time for return calls. OKAY, so I felt a little smug thinking I finally got through to the bureaucracy...but, I still was tired and wanted to get on with the appt. and get Rimfampin. Well, we went over the past 2 years, my latest labs, and he stopped us and said, it's time for the transplant evaluation...so he got the coordinator in there and they set up some of the basic things today. I had blood gasses drawn, Chest xray, ekg, and bloodwork. I have to go back for 2 days to schedule all those other testings. I can have the scope for the jpouch here in town with my 'gentle' surgeon...I can forward the results of my recent endoscope to HFH, as well as my most recent PAP smear in February....everything else has to be scheduled. He is going to do an ERCP and see if he can break through some scar tissue and open up some duct for itching relief. Did I mention NO ITCHING today???? He did not give me the Rifampin...he questioned what I had been taking which most recently was Ambien for sleep and Naltrexone for the itching. He asked why I stopped and I told him because the labs went up the doctor in Midland thought that was the culprit and took me off. He made a comment (very lowly) that that is what he would expect of that doctor thinking that, that that would be a normal course of thinking, but the fact was that my liver just got worse and he is putting me back on the Ambien for sleep and the Atarax for itching. He then prescribed the higher dosage of Actigall the 500 mg capsules so I didn't have to take so many of them (I wasn't complaining, I can swallow about 7-10 pills all at once without having a problem) So that is my story for today...when we left, I had a horrendous headache and did not much care for the blood gasses test as they hurt both of my wrists and I couldn't carry anything. When we got home, Ginger was so happy to see me, but my headache was horrible and I took a Motrin to alleviate it but she was in her kennel and she knew I was in the next room and she howled and howled. Mike had left go to to work for a little while, and I just covered my head and hoped she would finally stop. I slept for 3 hours straight...again without ITCHING. So once again, thank you all for saying prayers for me. Baudoux-Northrup ____________________________________________________ Yahoo! Sports Rekindle the Rivalries. Guest guest
, I'm still prayin'! I'm so happy the doc realized you needed an eval (duh!), and that he's on the ball about getting things to work right at the center. I was so hoping that this is where the visit would take you...Congrats on even temporary relief from the itch, too! Those days of unexplained respite were golden for me, too. Take care and know that we're all out here routing for you and caring for you - even if remotely. Deb in VA PSC 1998, UC 1999, Listed Ltx 2001, LDLTX 5/19/05 > Well my day at Henry Ford is over with. Guest guest
I am so glad to hear things are finally going better. You mentioned taking Motrin. Do others take that cause 's Dr's did not let him take it. Before the transplant they said it would increase risk of bleeding and after transplant they said it would interact with the rejection meds.
