Well, I don't really know for sure. I had been seeing different

cardiologists over the years for SVT (supra ventricular tachycardia).

I would have spontaneous heart palps (not just a strong pounding), but

heart rate would soar over 200 beats/minute. I landed in the ER a

couple of times with 260/minute. Then I was put on beta-blockers. I

was told by one doctor that it was a malfunction in my electrical

system and one doctor did say MVP. So, I don't know. The most recent

doctor wanted to do an ablation where they send a " zapper " thing up my

leg and zap the part of my heart that is causing this. I opted not to

have it done because it doesn't have the greatest successs rate in my

opinion. Thanks goodness, because I really do believe it has all to do

with my thyroid now - STUPID DOCTORS! Perhaps I am having palpitations

right now, but I am having a hard time discerning this because, like I

said, I am used to them being a lot higher than 103 beats /minute.

sending you good thoughts, ....cause I sure know that doom and gloom

feeling. but be calm....you're gonna get straightened out.

Ordinarily...but I've read some stuff that says some folks get the fast

heartbeat.

Here are several links on MVP, each of which has some varying opinions, but pay

attention to the first one where it talks about a substance called

mucopolysaccarides (sp?), which is a very present thing in thyroid disease,

particularly hypo, that causes the swelling in the face, around the joints, and

probably around the carpal and tarsal tunnels, and in the mouth. This is why

it's so prevalent in thyroid patients. But this doctor can't SEE this?! Get a

clue, doc!

Notice on the symptoms list in this second one how exactly like thyroid disease

this is. I'm saying to the writer of this website, Gee Whiz, Get A Clue as to

what this really Is!! Actually, I'm wondering if she found out what the real

cause was because I noticed that the last update was sometime in 2001!! Maybe

she went on Armour, got the valve corrected and has aNOTHER site dedicated to

thyroid disease.

Then #3 here is run of the mill, but you get the idea from all of these.

This is really something I do not need to be reading right now as my

anxiety level is through the roof. I have the doom andd gloom thing

going on (you know, where you feel like you have some dreadfully

deadly thing just waiting to pop up), and this article is VERY SCARY!

I have never heard of MVP being so deadly.

If you looked at the links, you would see that MVP does not cause a fast

heartbeat. That is NOT the problem with MVP. The first link gives a more cause

and effect from the mucopolysaccarides. Look at the symptoms. What does it

sound like it is? I posted a bunch of links several months back on another site

on the CAUSES of MVP, and it brought up so many links related to thyroid, you

couldn't even count them on 10 hands. Palpitations can be caused by a slow

heartbeat, with irregularities in rhythm, or a fast heartbeat that goes out of

timing, kind of like a car engine out of timing. Palps can be compared to

little mini sezures of the heart muscle. When it's not getting enough oxygen to

beat fast enough, it pumps harder, not necessarily faster. This is usually the

case in hypothyroidism. The heart slows down too much. In a fast heart rate,

the heart muscle can do the same thing, sometimes because the muscle can't keep

up with the faster pace. The synchronicity of the opening and closing of the

ventricles and atrial valves and the mitral valve have everything to do with

these things, and the electrical pattern in the heart. Aren't our bodies just

amazing?!

I am unsure of what you are saying here? People with MVP do not have

rapid heart rate at rest (palpitations). These are generally triggered

in MVP patients with stress, lack of sleep, caffeine, smoking, alcohol

etc... My heart arrythmias (sp.) happened with the above and without.

My resting heart rate would jump from 80 to 200+ beats per minute. I

am confused with what you are trying to convey. Can you explain?
