Hazelden is the grand conspirator as far as I'm concerned.

Let's convince these people that they have a lifetime disease, give

them a program that doesn't work, and we're guaranteed income &

patients.

Yucko!

They convinced Kitty Dukakis that she was a lifetime addict in need of

lifetime treatment because she had a one diet pill a day addiction for

years. Sounds more like a gender and oppression issue. I mean how much

of a difference can one stupid diet pill make in a person's body

weight? And why should she have to care so much?

Hi Apple, folks

" Addiction " can only be meaningfully defined as " Continued damaging

use " . Kitty probably had no bad effects from her diet pill at all, and

may even have kept her weight down with it, so in no way can she be

considered addicted, any more than drinking a cup of coffee every day

is being addicted. (Fwiw, Caffeine is similar to the amphetamine in

diet pills.)

Is a one cigarette-a-day smoker an addict? Most people would say no,

but even one cigarette a day is probably damaging - to characterize

Dukakis this way is simply absurd irrational drug prejudice on

Hazelden's part, as well as a chance to pull in a cash cow like a

politician's wife.
