Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for responding. If you don't mind me asking, who is Carol son? I am happy to hear that you've heard about some things at the conference. If there is no brachy band though, then do you know in what cases they would use that other kind of band? I spoke to a few moms in the waiting room last week and their babies had the other kind. I am curious why they got that kind. Do you know what the criteria is or the reason why each type of band is chosen to be uses? I hate to say that I am mad, but I will just be so upset if his head height doesn't look better at the end of his 2nd band treatment. Thanks a lot! Guest guest
Marcy, Carol is the president of Cranial Tech. She did most of the conference for us mods, along with parts from Tim Littlefield (VP) and Jeanne Pomatto (founder/CEO). It is Jeanne who still individually designs each helmet. The helmet you are referring to can be used on bracy babies who have no assymetries. There may be even a slight assymetry that Jeanne notices that would cause there to need a side cap like the one you got in order to keep the band from shifting and twisting. That cap you are referring to is used as a holding point to keep the band from slipping downward in some cases. If a baby has a steep upward slope, there is no place for that band to hang on to. It is the lying flat on an angle that actually causes the head to grow upward like that, so the helmet eliminates that, and the head can grow properly. You can't actually correct the height once it's there, but the band takes away the external pressures and lets the rest of the head catch up (the forehead area and back in your case), making it fill in in the needed areas. Regardless of where the caps are on his band, it will do the same thing. Hope that helps! > > > > > > Ok, here is the long story. Guest guest
, You answered SO many of my questions about the bands. Thank you so much! I actually feel much better now after reading your post. I wish they would've explained it to me like that today at CT. I think I would;ve left feeling alot happier. Guest guest
Hi Marcy, Hope I am not " butting " in to your conversations. When 's head gets more growth in length (i.e more rounding in back) then the increased posterior head height will be much less noticable and his head will have a much more normal look to it. I would still be careful about time spent in inclined seating arrangements though as I believe, even though the band is on, that the upward pressure on the band from the inclined seating arrangement will at least be passed to the skull at the top back of the band where it meets the head and thus cause a bit of upward pressure at the top of the band. Could this still contribute to head height? I don't know but I think that it could and this was also the opinion of one of our treating CT clinicians. Just my two cents.
