Hi, this is my first time on a 'list', so I hope I'm doing it right.

I am very new to soaping. For Christmas I dipped into MP, bath bombs and bath

salts/milks, I quickly realized that would not fulfill my new passion! I have

become consumed with CP! I really only have one batch, and a strange one at

that, under my belt, but have been researching it for month now. I feel

official now, yesterday I spent the day preparing my soap room (its really

just a corner in the basement... but now it's all mine!!!)

I've already got a name and a logo for my new business, along with so many

ideas I can't sleep at night!!

I'm 35, married 13 years, 3.5 kids, 2 dogs and I live in Michigan.

:)

Congratulations, What is the name of your company? I have also named mine

--SCENTATIONS by AUDREY So far all of us are relatively new to soapmaking, so

this should be loads of fun, sharing experiences, experiments, and this one

needs a little more work.

Welcome to the list!!! We are glad to have you:))

K... here is the recipe for my first batch!! and it was my recipe.

1 lb Sunflower oil

1 lb Olive oil

2 lb Swiftin shortening

8.33 oz lye

24 oz Cardomom tea

At trace add...

4 oz Almond oil infused with cinnamon, allspice, cardomom and lemon peel and

paprika.

2 T. freshly grated lemon peel

Unfortunately I suffered separation and had to rebatch. I don't think I let

it melt enough and ended up with the pukiest looking stuff you ever did see.

The scent wasn't as strong as I had hoped so I added more cinnamon.

It is now appearing to be curing okay. It smells like a cinnamon cookie or

something, and is very deep brown.

all in all, not so bad for my first batch I guess.

I have some fo's on order that should be coming in sooooooon. I can't wait to

use the real things.

What kind of shortening is this? Is this like Crisco?

I have heard all kinds of horror stories about rebatching. What is your

opinion? Did you rebatch in a crock pot or on the stove?

Guess I had better slow down with the questions and let you answer some of

them:))

Sounds like we are now off to a good start!!! Also, I have a question, seems

like I always have a lot of questions, what do y'll think about co-ops? Do

you think we should do them on this list? What rules should we have?

I am the listowner, and a new one at that, and I would like to have input from

everyone on the list, I think that it is important for all sides and opinions

to be heard. If you are shy and do not want to post, that is okay too, we

welcome everyone!!

My soap escapades . . .

I started out with a M & P kit from WalMart. I think it was a good way to

start, not to mention that using glycerin soap has cured some horrid itching!

I've enjoyed playing with color, and with a few scents, as well as adding

oatmeal.

My first CP soap was a basic coconut & palm oil recipe. Everything went fine

until I went to cut it; it crumbled. I haven't gotten an explanation as to

what could have caused that. Ideas? Anyway, I was able to cut most of it,

and it has until Sunday to cure. I can hardly wait! It's not real pretty,

but it's soap!

I took all the crumbles and tried to rebatch it. I think I scorched it, but

the color is okay as I used the recipe for Milk & Honey Soap from " The

Complete Soapmaker. "

I also made the Carrot Soap recipe from the Sugar Plum Sundries site,

substituting Apple Juice. This one was better, but I think I waited a bit too

long before pouring it in the mold. This one didn't crumble, however.

I'm looking forward to experimenting with scents as soon as the order I placed

arrives.

I'd love to get some help with rebatching. Every time I've tried it, I end up

with a thick, sticky mess. I can put it in a mold but often end up with air

pockets. Suggestions?

Ginny

I think it's a great idea! I know I've had some failures as well as some

successes .... I'd love to share!

Yes, it is like Crisco... pork and beef fats.

I think next time I rebatch I will not add so much water and not stir so

much... and definately not be so impatient!

I used my soap bowl... which is a large plastic bowl, over a 4 qt. pot of

simmering water.

I have never participated in a co-op, except with friends for spices, but I

would be interested.

Maybe our first rule should be that someone who knows what they are doing

should start them out!

LOL
