Guest guest
Hi Cheryl…I just wanted to say that I too am sorry you felt uncomfortable with the way your visit to CT went. We have infinite testimonials within the group that say CT won’t band your baby if he/she doesn’t need it (I repo’ed my baby for her correction so I don’t know from experience), but if you felt comfortable with the Hanger facility, if you are satisfied with the orthotist’s experience and you believe that Paige could get the same quality of treatment there, then there is nothing wrong with going there as opposed to CT. We have moms here whose kids have had great correction from a Hanger band. Please keep in touch and let us know what you decided. Becky (’s mom) in Pgh, PA Re: Long term impacts of banding & our story Wow, Kelli! This is great information. Your post was more helpful than any of my appointments have been. Thanks for the detail! So far, none of our health professionals have shared any of that (that's 2 banding clinics -- Cranial Technologies and Hanger Orthothics as well as a Pediatric Neurosurgeon at Baptist Hospital in Winston- Salem, NC). After talking extensively about this with our pediatrician, they agreed to have Paige looked at just to rule out banding. The pediatrician felt that the asymetry was mild, but it seemed to be getting worse. Both banding clinics felt that Paige was a definite candidate for banding -- stating that it wasn't mild enough to let time heal it. In fact, Cranial Technologies told us that it wouldn't be able to be corrected without banding (hence, my red flags went up as I know that there are other options including repositioning which hadn't worked yet). I'm wondering if she is seeing us as another bit of added revenue. Hanger seemed to offer much more sound information -- plus the whole casting issue could be avoided (they use a computer to generate a 3-D image used to make her helmet). I trusted the orthotist (spelling?) more at Hanger as it seemed like he was being more upfront and honest with us. Then, in between those 2 appointments, we saw a pediatric neurosurgeon. They also suggested that Paige was a good candidate for banding. None of the places shared the information that you did. I went into each appointment prepared (thanks to some great websites), but most of them said that it was more cosmetic (even though common sense tells me that every single statement you made is true). Other health professionals on the homeopathic side were the ones that asked that we not band due to the negative impacts on her neurological and immune system. Who is right? So my head is spinning. Sorry for the long post! Anyway, we will sit down over the next few days to decide what's best for Paige. I pray that we make the right decision. My only real fear is that there doesn't seem to be any research about the long- term impacts of banding. Realizing that it's a fairly new need since the SIDS " back to sleep " campaign came out, I'd still think that some group would have done some research on the long-term side. Short- term, I feel that the band is best, but I want to be certain that it won't have any negative ramifications on Paige as she grows up. You know -- the stuff we all wish we would have known before we made some decisions in life. May God lead us down the right path because right now, I just don't feel like we can make the right choice without Him. Congrats to on his graduation!
