Guest guest
Sorry to hear of your little one being so ill. Your dietician is right though. There really isn't much you can do except make sure he's drinking as much as he can stand. Maybe talk to them about bits of saltine crackers, if he can stand it. That way if he throws up, he doesn't have dry heaves and they may help- absorb some of the acid in his tummy. It's hard to watch them that way. It will be over soon if it is the flu and he'll be back to his old self again. mom to 15mo wcfand Brenna 5yrs wocf >From: jleffler9499@... >Reply-To: cfparentsegroups >To: cfparentsegroups >Subject: flu virus >Date: Wed, 01 Nov 2000 20:16:18 -0000 > >well as of last monday Noah weighed 14.6 and yesterday he woke up and >has been throwing up he threw up his to bottles yesterday which >consisted of 7 ozs. of formula. Guest guest
I know this sounds like an old wives tale but it works. Boil rice save the rice keep the starchy water feed this to your baby it is thicker than water easily digested and helps to get some calories in .the other thing would be Jell-O not refrigerated just mixed it is thick and sugary . I always make my own electrolyte solution (tastes better) BeckyB.
Guest guest
I am sorry that Noah is sick. If it makes you feel any better, ph I don't even think weighed that much at 8 months, and at 17 and a half months, he is now 19 lbs...... usually kids will lose weight with an illness, its just part of it. Mallory lost like 4 or more pounds when she had RSV followed immediately by rotavirus, and she managed to gain it back in the next 4 months or so (even though she got RSV again 2 months later). Just hang in there and ride the illness out, and then you can fatten him up when he is better. Our doc usually doesn't worry, or doesn't seem to, when they are sick and lose weight, only when they have poor weight gain or no gain long term. I think they want them to have good weight so that if/when they do get sick, they have some reserves to fall back on. Hang in there...oh, and will he drink pedialyte? IF not, we were told anything they will drink that is clear, sprite..... gatorade, doesn't have to be pedialyte if they won't drink it then they really will get dehydrated. My kids will not touch that pedialyte stuff at all!!!!! Hang in there Jen Mommy of 7, including ph 17 months with CF, Mallory 3 with CF, RAD, GERD, OSA, new port-a-cath; 4 with CF; 6, Miranda 8, Brittany 7 yo foster daughter with Type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes) soon to be adopted by us; ERica 4 yo foster daughter, soon to be adopted by us also ; also aunt to 3 yo with CF
Guest guest
I need enzymes even with rice. If you read the labels on the Rx jars, there are three proteins : Lipase for fat; usually more protease for protein, and amylase for carbo- hydrates. There are other enzymes, for beans, for instance, and for milk, that they're left out as not all of us lack the enzymes needed for those foods and they can be separately prescribed or purchased as needed--blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah All three of my children use Beano (made by the Lactaid folks), and Lactaid and/or Lactaid milk as they are deficient in Lactase needed to digest Lactose. I used to put 1/4 teaspoon of salt, one teaspoon (well not the teaspoon itself)ful of sugar (for absorption) and a tiny pinch of potassium chloride (from diet bouillion cubes) into one pint of some yummy fruit juice, shake it up and act like it was really a treat, and my cfer fell for it. Powerade ain't cheap, but has more potassium, but I used to give my cfer Powerade diluted by half--Gatorade in a pinch; but the great thing about the homemade stuff (level measures, by the way) is that you can add a bit or subtract a bit untill you see that things are improving, provided one does not go overboard with the eledtrolytes and just pour salt, sugar and potassium in. Not every cfer needs the potassium; I do and my young cfer did. Press delete if in doubt! n Rojas
Guest guest
well as of last monday Noah weighed 14.6 and yesterday he woke up and has been throwing up he threw up his to bottles yesterday which consisted of 7 ozs. of formula. He trew up again last nite, but i think that was because the pedialyte i was giving him was a little on the cold side, though it was warm enough and then at 2 am he threw up, because he drank it to fast. this morning he had a 1 1/2 ozs. of formula seemed okay waited about an 1 1/2 hrs band tried some more and he threw up the enzymes never got the formula down. he has been drinking peialyte very slowly over the last few hours and then he threwup again. the dietition doesn't seem to worried she says that it is the stomach flu and that all we can do is keep him hydrated. she doesn't want him on formula for the next 24 hours. he lost 6 ozs. i'm scared and worried he is already so small for 8 mos. any advice or just a kind word would be appreciated. not sure how much to worry mom of breanna 8yo wocf and noah 8mos old wcf

Guest guest
The starch is easily converted to simple sugars by the body I never gave enzymes as Rebekah has reflux and when she was throwing up the concern was aspiration. The dehydration solution is simple 1 tsp. of sugar in 8 ounces of water 1/4 tsp. of salt and any flavoring they like. I also found after having severe throwing up with 8 pregnancies that Ginger helps to calm nausea the really strong ginger cookies (usually the cheapest cookies were stronger in ginger) I never tried the dried ginger. I hope this helps. BeckyB.
Guest guest
My kids actually LIKED crystallized ginger--the straight stuff covered with sugar! It worked anyway, and I was pleased to note that your recipe is identical to the one our pharmacy gave us only thirty-four years ago! n Rojas wcf, kids (grown) and big issue with dehidration with me and the cf " kid "
