Guest guest Posted October 19, 2004 Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 Hi Amy, ANY red spot that doesn't fade WITHIN an hour needs to be addressed. A baby should be able to wear a helmet/band for 23 hours and when it's taken off ALL red marks fade within one hour. If that isn't happening the band 100% needs to be adjusted!!!! It is soooo important to keep his band off of him until he can wear it and ALL red marks fade within the hour. Keeping it on him is going to lead to a skin breakdown. If that happens he could be out of his band for a week, maybe more. I am so sorry you're going through this. This isn't normal, to answer your question. The only reason I am hesitant about calling his ortho again is when he put it on, he had it on for about 6 hours and the red spots looked normal, and they were gone in about 20 minutes. I cannot get it on right, I know its gotta be me. I try and try to get it on right, but its always rubbing against his forehead. ARGH.....any tips to get the helmet on right? Red spots that don't fade and blisters are NOT okay! If he gets skin breakdown from that blister it could lead to scarring and problems w/his hair growth. You need to really watch that spot VERY carefully. I'd love to hear his explanation of why the forehead is cut so much higher than all the other bands babies w/a similar head shape wear. Have you given more thougth to calling the other Hanger location and asking to speak with Gordon? In our database it's the Woburn location and the number is (781) 932- 5828. He has been treating plagio babies since I joined the group almost two years ago. Maybe you can ask for his email and email him pics and get his opinion. What you're dealing with in not okay and not " normal. " My daughter had bands for almost 14 mos and we only had to make once special trip to CT for a red spot issue and they fixed it quickly and we were on our way again. She was able to wear them all full time the first day. Guest guest Posted October 20, 2004 Report Share Posted October 20, 2004 Amy, I'm so sorry to hear that you may have trouble putting it on right or it is possibly not fitting right. I am in agreement that it sits really high on his forehead. Does it shift alot? I would take the other members advice into consideration and leave the band off until you can see your ortho for an adjustment or for a visit to help you put it on correctly. We NEVER had a red spot issue and the band sit correctly on his head (see Colin F. pics, our plagio kids). In the beginning I just needed practice to open it as wide as I could and made sure it sat just above Colin's eyebrows. It's hard to explain but I used my right middle finger to move the front section forward and my right thumb to push the back section back. Your ortho should be able to help you but if things do not improve soon, you need to make a change, whatever that may be. I do believe that this is worth all of the effort you are doing for !
