That is such wonderful news about Simon Andres and I'm glad that your trip

went so well! How nice to have bumped into the Masoner family, it's always

so nice to finally be able to meet people that you have been conversing with

over the computer.

I know exactly how you felt with putting Simon Andres in the shopping cart,

etc, that was such a thrill for us too! You feel like things FINALLY get to

be a little more on the normal side and find yourself enjoying all of those

little things that most people get to take for granted.

Oh, I forgot to mention something about what kind of shoes for Simon Andres.

We started out with the stride rite walkers (before she was actually

walking, just starting to cruise,etc.). This summer however I had to buy

another larger pair of tennis shoes and did'nt want to have to spend the

same amout of money since she was mostly crawling and dragging these shoes

around the floors. So....I took some advice from one of the parents here on

the group again and went to Payless Shoe Store to buy some " play " shoes that

were good for her feet but also I would'nt mind them getting roughed up in

the process. I ended up with a brand called " Smart Fit " and her tennis shoes

are named " Cross Trekkers " , they were $9.99. I figured I would buy her

another pair of Stride rite also so she could were them when we went out and

she could wear the Payless ones when we were outside playing in the

backyard, etc. Well.............after one day of her wearing these Payless

shoes, I was sold! They are great, so supportive but nice and flexible,

great support on her ankles and she actually walked better when she first

started walking in the shoes then without them. So, I'm going back for some

dress type shoes for this fall! She has never had a pair of cute

little girl shoes so far, I've always had her in tennis shoes for support

since she just started walking at 17 1/2 months. They make all different

kinds of shoes by " smart fit " , tennis shoes, dress shoes, sandles and they

seem to be great for her feet and walking. And I sure can't beat that price!

That's really great to know. I've been contemplating buying Sam

another pair of Stride Rites recently. I think I might try Payless

first. It would probably save me $30 and a two hour drive to the

mall in Milwaukee. ) We could sure go broke trying to do the

absolute *best* for our kids, couldn't we?? ) (although I will say

that any money spent on getting thier feet corrected w/o surgery is

well spent.)

I know it wasn't for me but...Thanks for the tip!!

Andreina,

Congratulations on the good report you got in Iowa! So glad things

look good for Simon Andres. You must be so happy! The pictures of him

are adorable.. what a handsome little boy!

I couldn't help but notice some X-rays in one of the pictures.. may I

ask if they were X-rays of Simon Andres' feet? I've wondered under

what circumstances X-rays are taken, it just made me curious.. If I'm

being too nosy, just say so!

About shoes.. Dr. Ponseti told us that high-top leather shoes would

be best, but sneakers would be OK if we couldn't get them.

Yes, those were X-rays of Simon Andres' foot, but they weren't taken

at the hospital in Iowa. Dr. Ponsenti had asked me if I have X-rays

showing how Simon Andres' foot looked before being treated by him and

I brought them with me last week.

They never took X-rays in Iowa, I wondered why, but I guess Dr.

Ponseti doesn't need them to know how the feet are.

Yea, I figured I only would have lost $10.00 if I did'nt like them. I'm very

impressed by them though, I looked at other shoes (Nike, etc.) but I really

liked how flexible the sole of the shoes are but still have the full leather

uppers. My pediatrician said that for pre and early walkers don't buy a shoe

with stiff, unflexible soles, their feet are'nt able to move correctly in

those.

Andreina,

I'm so happy to hear that Simon's foot is looking so wonderful!!!

As for shoes, I have bought Nike's for Rose. I really have liked them.

I think for her first walking pair, though, I bought her a pair of

high-top Weeboks, and those were great.
