Guest guest
Even though I have surgery scheduled for 6/13 with Dr. Olive, I decided to keep my surgery consult appt with my RE as a sort of second opinion. Turns out that my RE was trained at Yale by Dr. Olive. However, he is not as well-versed in AS and does not do as many surgeries as Dr. Olive. So, I will have Dr. Olive do my surgery on 6/13. Interestingly enough, the RE does not believe that I have adhesions/AS, but rather polyps or fibroids. Both the radiologist and Dr. Olive think adhesions are more likely than polyps/fibroids. The RE said it is very unlikely for AS to have been caused by an early (9wk) abortion. He said AS is caused when there is a *need* for a *vigorous* D & C after delivery to remove retained placenta and stop bleeding. He thinks that I have fibroids or polyps, from what he can see on the films. He said AS is usually webby adhesions where I show a " mass " on one side. He admitted that it is possible that I do have webby adhesions that did not show up on the HSG. I asked the RE to describe hysteroscopy and the tools he would use. He would do a Sonohystogram first to get more clues as to what exactly the uterine " mass " is, before doing hysteroscopy. For the hysteroscopy he would use small scissors, then resectosope and maybe D & C if necessary! Yikes! I asked him about reformation of scar tissue and he said I shouldn't have any. And, if it was fibroids that he *might* use a balloon/abx or estrogen depending on how much he had to cut out, but he didn't think it would be necessary in my case. Also, he would not do SHG, HSG or office hysteroscopy to check the outcome of the surgery later. Needless to say, I am more comfortable with Dr. Olive's treatment plan, which will include balloon, antibiotics and estrogen, and a post-surgery evaluation. It will be interesting to see what Dr. Olive discovers when he looks inside my uterus: fibroids, adhesions, polyps? I'll be sure to let you know! pat > Pat, > I just wanted to say good luck tomorrow when you go for your surgical consult.
